WEE WAA PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Tuesday 22nd July 2014 2014— —Week 2 “Respecting the past, valuing the present, aiming for the future” View from the Principal’s Desk Thank You to Rotary At the Wee Waa Rotary Club Annual Changeover Dinner held at the beginning of the holidays, we gratefully received a $600 donation for the school. This money will be used to further the operations of our Breakfast Club. We are very thankful that this community service organisation supports the schools in our town and we look forward to a continuing relationship with Rotary. Annual Stormco Visit The first week of the holidays also saw a visit from Stormco. This team of young people from the Adventist College in Newcastle have been visiting Wee Waa for many years learning the value of community service by visiting the elderly, building improvements to the showground and leading the children of our community through 4 fun filled days of activity. On the morning I visited there were almost 50 children, mostly students of Wee Waa Public having a great time singing, painting, running around and building balloon art. Each class had the opportunity to work with the instructors who were very impressed by the attitude and work ethic of all the children. Special thanks to Wee Waa High School who facilitated the visit as part of NAIDOC week celebrations. Welcome Interns This term the school is hosting 3 trainee teachers, Kate Halliday (Year 6), Bernadette Paul (Year 1) & Chloe Reeves (KM) who are completing their final practicum before graduating as teachers. We hope they have both a successful experience at our school and an enjoyable time with our students. Thank you to Mrs Smith, Mrs Baird and Ms Miguel for hosting them. Thank You The holidays were a terrible time for my family with the passing of my dad. Thank you so much to all those people of our community and students of our school who have expressed their condolences they were greatly appreciated. ACTIVE AFTER SCHOOL Active After School will NOT run on Monday 28th July as Ms Farrell will be away with the School Netball Team. Wednesday sessions will now run from 3.00pm until 4.30pm and will be co-ordinated by Miss Miguel and David Gligorevic. Students should meet at the Kindergarten room at 3.00pm. If you need a permission note please see Miss Miguel! The initial planning meeting for the school 30 year anniversary celebrations has been postponed, a rescheduled date for this meeting will be advised later in the year. PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE for our major fundraiser for this year, the Hawaiian themed Trivia Night will now be held on Friday 29th August at the Imperial Hotel. Please start planning your teams and set aside this date for a fantastic night out.. In conjunction with the Trivia Night we are running a Father’s Day Raffle. An industrial wheelbarrow has been donated to the P&C by Agies Rural Retail. We hope to fill the wheel barrow with goodies as our Father’s Day Raffle fundraiser. If you could please consider donating items towards this raffle. Items can be left at the front office. Thank you ATHLETICS Carnival - the P&C is running the canteen at the carnival this year. We would very much welcome donations of cakes and slices for the canteen on the day. Any help you may be able to provide, if even only for an hour would be greatly appreciated. The next General Meeting of the P&C will be Tuesday 5th August from 5.30pm in the school staff room. Please come along new members are needed and always welcome! Athletics Carnival Our Athletics Carnival will be held at Cook Oval this Friday 25th July. Students who travel by bus will be dropped off and picked up from the oval. All other students must make their own way out to Cook Oval to arrive no later than 8.45am. All students are expected to attend. Rolls will be marked and students are under the supervision of teachers for the whole day. Please come along and support your child. There will be a canteen running on the day. Year 6 Fundraiser—Cupcake Stall Year 5—Weeronga Visit On Friday next week (1st August), Year 6 will be holding a cupcake stall. On Thursday Year 5 will be walking to the Weeronga Aged Care Home at 10.00am to share morning tea and perform a song for the residents. Money raised will go towards a gift for the school when Year 6 move on to high school in 2015! Please make sure your child is in full school uniform. Please remember to continue to make regular payments to the front office. Mrs Smith is in the process of finalising numbers and booking venues so don’t miss out! Year 2 Classwork Once upon a time there lived a mystery man. One day the mystery man went on a double decker bus. He got on the top. When he sat down he was going to sit on a magic wizards hat. When he put the hat on he disappeared. That was the end of that. Josh Byrne. Long, long ago there lived three emus. There names were Zack, Ted & Paul. They loved to play every day in the hot hot sun. One day they saw an enormous zoo. They saw a zookeeper in the pool, teaching the seals tricks. Then they saw the zookeeper training the lions. It was amazing at the zoo. But the last cage was the emus. “It is not right. The emus there are not emus!” They went home and Zack was crying all the way. With donations and the class fundraising activities our students raised over $4,500! What a great effort. A huge thanks must go to Miss Redden, who coordinated Jump Rope for Heart this year.
