(Supported by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in its Network Sciences Collaborative Technology Alliance and IBM Ph.D. Fellowship)
• Develop an unsupervised topic model for discovering author-based sentiments and aspects
from opinionated text. The model can automatically generate interpretable author profiles
that describe their preferences in term of sentiments and aspects.
• Develop a probabilistic model and a semi-supervised system that can accurately infer
the authors sentiment from text. The system consists of two novel components: a semisupervised approach for constructing the sentiment lexicons; A CRF-based sentiment analysis model.
• Extract information from unstructured data. Analyze the correlation between trader behavior and their interpersonal communications. Build prediction model of trading behavior.
Create a natural language processing module for extracting features from informal short
texts.
• Build an agent-based model in stock trading context; study how credibility of information
(e.g., instant messages) can affect agents’ decision making (i.e., stock trading); Evaluate
information credibility based on latent topics, causality analysis, sentiment analysis, etc.
• Develop approaches for agents to infer trustworthiness of others based on direct interaction
and referrals from third parties.
