Main Goals
This course is designed for exchange students of the FHS who have
little or no previous knowledge of German. The course aims to provide
you with a basic knowledge of German in order to enable you to find
your way in a German-speaking environment and to make your stay in
St. Gallen a success.
The course covers the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing
on a basic level. Focus will be on communicative skills as well as on
grammatical structures and vocabulary. Topics include everyday’s life
and issues.
Referring to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for
Languages) this course offers the necessary basis leading to Level
A1.1.

• understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic
phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type (A1)
• introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions
about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she

• interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and
clearly and is prepared to help (A1)
