SPOTLIGHT:
A SUMMER INQUIRY with Hayward M. Fox, Ph.D.
Two half-day workshops: July 26 and August 23
8:30 am-12:30 pm at TOMF
We seek to find secure footing in the shifting landscape of our lives. We attempt to
establish a strong, stable self that can deal with what we anticipate to be next in our lives.
However, time has shown us that the future we anticipate is not
the future that arrives and that the stance we prepare leaves us
off balance.
Perhaps we are making some basic assumptions that limit our
knowledge. Can we learn a new way of knowing that increases
our freedom? Can we learn to live with less resistance, less
friction and more ease?
Each meeting will allow new perspectives on our self and the circumstances of our lives.
Hope to see you soon. Hayward Fox.

New Classes Beginning:
Compassion Cultivation Training
from
Stanford University's Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education
Time: Eight Sundays, 4-6pm
Dates: August 17 - October 5 at TCMC
Course Instructor: Aly Waibel, PhD(c), Certified Instructor of Compassion Cultivation Training
Cultivating compassion goes beyond feeling concern for others. It develops the strength to be
with suffering, the courage to take compassionate action, and the resilience to prevent empathy
fatigue. Compassion cultivation can also support one’s own health, happiness, and well-being.
Preliminary research suggests that CCT and similar programs can reduce stress, anxiety, and
depression, and enhance connection with others. No previous meditation experience is required.
Tuition: $295 / $325 with CE’s (includes course materials)

Do you have debt or financial issues? Do you want to integrate your
finances and consumption into your dharma practice?
If so, this is the class for you. This class will explore a systematic practice for being mindful of the way that
you earn and spend money. It will help you better align your spending with your values, and transform your
relationship with money. This is not about following a strict budget. As you apply more mindfulness to your
spending patterns, you will find that they tend to align more closely with your values and life purpose.
TEACHER: Blake Barton has been practicing mindfulness of money and simple living for 17 years. He
followed the steps presented in this course which allowed him to retire from his primary career at 47 years
of age. He now has more time for spiritual practice and service to the community.

operate effectively and to continue to provide meditation classes, retreats, and
silent sits, TCMC needs a group of committed volunteers. In order to provide an
incentive to volunteer, TCMC is now offering $10 in volunteer vouchers for each
hour of volunteer service. These vouchers can be used in lieu of payment at any
TCMC sponsored event.
This program officially began on June 1st, 2014, so any volunteer hours completed
since then will be eligible for vouchers. Please contact Blake Barton at
[email protected] with any questions or to receive your vouchers. They will
typically be distributed on a monthly basis.
