Thippawan Sittisombut Abstract Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum spp., is one of the most important diseases of chili pepper production in Thailand. Anthracnose infects chili pepper at all growth stages and transmits to seed. Conventionally, fungicides are widely used to control the disease, but have adverse effect on health of farmers and consumers. Acidified nitrite (NaNO2) is a food additive with known activity against microorganism. The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of acidified nitrite on control of seed-borne C. capsici isolate 158ci in chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) cv.‘Bangchang’. The experiment was carried out in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Soaking C. capsici isolate 158ci infected seeds in acidified nitrite [NaNO2 in citric acid buffer (pH 2.5)] at 0 (control), 100, 200, 250, 300, 350 and 400 mM for 30 min, and then transferred the treated seeds on PDA (potato dextrose agar) for 7 days.
