EXPLANATION OF THE MASS:
Offertory
When we are invited to a feast, we don’t go with empty hands. We go at
least with a smile and a joyful heart. Sometimes also, we offer a gift to
those who invite us. At mass, the priest offers the bread and the wine.
Why is that? Jesus used bread and wine at Last Supper because it was the
custom of the Hebrew Passover. It is also because bread and wine are the
basic food of every meal. Mass is at the image of a meal that prefigures
the banquet of eternal weddings at which we are all invited by Christ.

SPIEGAZIONE DELLA MESSA:
Offertorio
Quando siamo invitati ad una festa, non veniamo le mani vuote. Veniamo
almeno con il sorriso e la gioia. Talvolta, offriamo anche un regalo a
coloro che ci invitano. Alla messa, il sacerdote offre il pane e il vino.
Perché ? Gesù ha usato il pane e il vino all’ultima Cena perché era già
nell’usanza della pasqua ebrea. E’ anche perché il pane e il vino sono gli
alimenti di base di ogni pasto. Cosi, la messa è l’immagine di un pasto che
prefigura il banchetto delle nozze eterne a cui siamo tutti invitati da Cristo.
