Médecins Sans Frontières – Ärzte ohne Grenzen e.V. (MSF-Germany) is the German section of
the international medical aid organisation Médecins Sans Frontières which focuses on medical
humanitarian aid in crisis situations worldwide. MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in
1999. MSF-Germany supports MSF’s global field operations through recruitment of field
personnel, raising awareness about humanitarian issues and fundraising. MSF-Germany is one
of 21 MSF sections and is part of the Operational Centre Amsterdam (OCA), through which the
majority of German field personnel and funds are channeled. Within OCA, MSF-Germany
directly manages field projects in nine countries.
The Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) international movement is financed primarily through
private donations and contributions, and around 10 percent of the yearly income comes from
institutional sources. In 2015 the German section received EUR 3.9 million in institutional
funds and EUR 116 million in private donations. The hereby advertised position ‘Institutional
Fundraising Officer’ is responsible for coordinating the fundraising and contract management
process vis-à-vis German and European institutional donors, particularly the German Foreign
Office (Auswärtiges Amt) and the Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid & Civil Protection of
the European Commission (DG ECHO).

Position within the office
The Institutional Fundraising Officer is part of the Finance department and reports directly to
the Head of Finance of MSF Germany while also collaborating closely with the Finance
department in Amsterdam. The position functions as a link between the project managing
sections, the field teams and the respective German or European donor institution.
Objective of the position
To continue and further develop institutional fundraising for MSF-Germany/OCA.
II. Tasks:








Maintaining and developing the organisational relationship with key donor institutions,
notably the German Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) and DG ECHO
Working closely with the different MSF Operational Centres in order to identify, complete
and submit donor proposals for specific MSF projects
Overseeing and coordinating the entire donor contract management process for cofinanced projects, including the submission of contract amendments, interim and final
reports (narrative and financial)
Ensuring compliance with donor requirements throughout the institutional funding
process.
Managing the web-based project management database of DG ECHO for OCA
Maintaining internal records and documentation for audit purposes
Cover for, coordinate and closely collaborate with the institutional fundraising counterpart
position at the OCA office in Amsterdam
Contribute towards MSF’s international projects in the area of institutional fundraising as
required
III. Profile:











Completed university degree
Proven experience regarding proposal and report writing for institutional donors,
particularly Auswärtiges Amt and DG ECHO
Knowledge of budgeting and basic financial processes
Experience working with the Project Cycle Management and Logical Framework tools
Excellent written and verbal skills in English and German; knowledge of French would be
an advantage
Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills with the ability to work effectively with
others as part of a team
Good analytical skills while paying attention to detail
Good organizational and time management skills; ability to meet (overlapping) deadlines
Ability to deliver the required products with minimal supervision
Advanced Windows user skills particularly Word and Excel
First-hand experience in humanitarian/development projects desirable
