Guest Lecture am Max-Weber-Kolleg
„Affirmative Action (Reservation) Policy in India:
Prejudices and Challenges“
Prof. Dr. Sukhadeo Thorat , Jawaharlal Nehru University (India)
14. Juni 2016 | 14.30 Uhr | FG 1 (Gelände Helios Klinikum), Raum 121
Sukhadeo Thorat is one of the
leading economists in India. He
is a professor Emeritus at the
Centre for the Study of Regional
Development, Jawaharlal Nehru
University and the chairman of
Indian Council for Social Science
Research, New Delhi.
Prof. Thorat has extensively published on the issues of discrimination in higher education
and the labour market, as well as
caste and economic exclusion
and marginalization. Putting
caste, especially Dalits, onto
India’s research and policy agenda has been the primary focus of
his scholarly endeavor and social
action for the last decades. The topic of his presentation in Erfurt –
reservation, or affirmative action
policy – takes up one of the most
important legal (constitutional)
measures to promote equality to
all sections of the Indian society.
