Guest Lecture am Max-Weber-Kolleg „Affirmative Action (Reservation) Policy in India: Prejudices and Challenges“ Prof. Dr. Sukhadeo Thorat , Jawaharlal Nehru University (India) 14. Juni 2016 | 14.30 Uhr | FG 1 (Gelände Helios Klinikum), Raum 121 Sukhadeo Thorat is one of the leading economists in India. He is a professor Emeritus at the Centre for the Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University and the chairman of Indian Council for Social Science Research, New Delhi. Prof. Thorat has extensively published on the issues of discrimination in higher education and the labour market, as well as caste and economic exclusion and marginalization. Putting caste, especially Dalits, onto India’s research and policy agenda has been the primary focus of his scholarly endeavor and social action for the last decades. The topic of his presentation in Erfurt – reservation, or affirmative action policy – takes up one of the most important legal (constitutional) measures to promote equality to all sections of the Indian society.
