Complete the table below in 1 to 6 words/numbers. Good morning, boys and girls. I’m Mr Wolf, your zoo guide for today. I hope, you are ready for a great day. First I must tell you: no pets, no bicycles, no roller-skates in the zoo. Okay, and now I’d like to tell you something about our zoo. London Zoo is on the north side of Regent’s Park. It opened in 1847 and became one of the most famous zoos in the world. There has been an aquarium at the zoo since 1853 and in 1938 the Children’s Zoo opened. Until 1902 people could see many tropical animals inside the buildings. They thought these animals could not survive outside in London’s cold weather. Today London Zoo has got about 750 kinds of animals. The whole number of animals is about 15,000. You are allowed to feed some of the animals. In the Children’s Zoo you can see camels and feed pigs. Visit the pelicans’ feeding at Three Island Pond at 1:30 pm and on Fridays you can feed the snakes in the Reptile House at 2:15 pm. More than 1 million people visit our zoo every year. In summer it opens at 9 o’clock in the morning and closes at 8 pm. In the winter months the zoo is open from 10 am till 4 o’clock in the afternoon. If you are hungry you can have a snack at the Oasis Café. They prepare hot meals, baguettes, cakes and burgers. 300 people can have a break there. a b c d e f g h two things not to bring to the zoo opening of Children’s Zoo reason for keeping tropical animals inside until 1902 number of animals Where are the camels? feeding times of snakes opening hours in December a place where you can have something to eat and drink 8 Seite 3 von 6 ZENTRALE KLASSENARBEIT 2009 GYMNASIUM/SCHULJAHRGANG 6 2 ENGLISCH Questions to Mr Wolf Mr Wolf must answer many questions about the animals and the zoo.
