... of Beilngries presides one of
the most stunning castle grounds
of the Free State of Bavaria: the
rococo castle Hirschberg. The former ancestral seat of the Graf von
Hirschberg exposes its visitors with
numerous features of the medieval
times. The two prominent towers,
the vast kennel area and the late
medieval outer bailey of the castle
are still testifying today of the once
biggest castle complex of the valley
“Altmühltal”. Due to a lightning strike
in the 17th century, the complex was
reconstructed as a prince-bishop’s
summer- and hunting residence.
Today the castle is used as conference and educational institution of
the diocese Eichstätt. The historic
rooms provide a splendid frame for
our T4SS-conference.
... enchanted by the special and festive atmosphere of Nuremberg and its
famous Christmas Market “Christkindl
Market”, which dates back to the mid
16th century. With its hundreds years
of history, the market offers traditional handmade Christmas decoration, sweet dainties like gingerbread
and roasted almonds as well as tasty
Nuremberg sausages. When it is cold
outside, the typical hot mulled wine
will warm you again after your stroll
over the Christmas Market.
The so called “Glühwein” is usually
made with red wine along with various
mulling spices and served in a mug,
especially designed for every year.

Welcome Note
Major Topics and Call for Abstracts
Dear colleagues, dear guests,
Infectious diseases caused by multiple
antibiotic resistant pathogens present
a major health issue in the 21st century. In many cases, Type IV Secretion
Systems (T4SS) are responsible for the
transport of effector molecules from
pathogens into the eukaryotic host
as well as for the spread of antibiotic
resistances among pathogenic bacteria
and from commensals to pathogens.
During the last two decades we have
a very good tradition of international
T4SS conferences taking place every
3–4 years with the last one in Bilbao,
Spain, 2012.
We hope that you will join T4SS 2016
to discuss the most recent research
It is therefore our great pleasure to host results and their implications for huthe next T4SS conference in Germany man health and other applications.

Abstract Submission
The location of the conference, castle
“Schloss Hirschberg” in Beilngries, is
extraordinary as it is a beautiful old
castle in the south of Germany, which
was built from 1170 to 1200. The castle
is easily accessible via the international
airports in Munich or Nuremberg and
shuttle busses. We also plan to offer
various excursions and events, e.g.,
an afternoon trip to the famous city
of Nuremberg to visit the beautiful
Christkindl market
(www.christkindlesmarkt.de).

We cordially invite you to submit your
abstracts (length: max. 2,000 characters) online at t4ss-conference.de
to the below topics. Abstracts must
be submitted in English by 15 June
2016. A review panel will evaluate
the abstracts according to scientific
content and suitability for the conference. A limited number of abstracts
will be accepted for oral or poster
presentation.
