“Business Intelligence & Analytics: From Big Data to Value Creation”

Call for Papers
for the Scientific Conference of the
Erich-Gutenberg-Arbeitsgemeinschaft Köln e.V.
in Nuremberg/Germany (June 3rd, 2016)
and the Special Issue (JBE) on
“Business Intelligence & Analytics:
From Big Data to Value Creation”
Digital data are an inherent part of our everyday life and of the business environment. Their worldwide
extent is more than doubling every two years. By the year 2020, 44 trillion gigabytes of data are expected
worldwide, compared to only 4.4 trillion gigabytes in the year 2013 (IDC, 2014). This unprecedented
amount of data, referred to as Big Data, admittedly contains the potential of innovative services, datadriven business models, as well as social knowledge and intelligence. Companies are facing the great
challenge of how to benefit from Big Data, i.e. creating and capturing value. Therefore, Business
Intelligence and Analytics, i.e. IT-based management support by targeted data (Davenport & Harris,
2007), are necessary to analyze the enormous amounts of undirected data in a target-oriented way and
thus make them exploitable. In this context, systematic solutions for managing Big Data effectively are
still lacking – and there is an urgent need for new theories and methods to assist extracting useful
information from the rapidly growing volumes of digital data.
The upcoming scientific conference aims at discussing the state of the art of research on Big Data and
potential associated value creation. Moreover, the conference aims at advancing not only the current
understanding of the subject from an information systems perspective, but also from adjacent fields. We
invite papers, which provide novel conceptual perspectives and/or empirical insights into the value
creation from big data by applying appropriate business intelligence and/or business analytics.
