DURBAN REGIMENT WELCOMING BACK PARADE: 19 SEPTEMBER 2015
On 19 September 2015, Durban public braved the spring wet weather to welcome back Durban Regiment
from their successful Op Corona deployment to the Mozambique and Swaziland Borders of KwaZulu-Natal.
Their Head Quarters was based on Pongola with a Company base in Ndumu.
The Regiment was deployed from 2 March to 14 September 2015 and had a number of successes valued at
R4 460 293.00 which included:
Weapons: 3 (1 x 9mm, 1 x AK47 and 1 x R4, including 5 rounds 9mm, 5 rounds 7.62mm and 147 rounds
5.56mm)
Drugs: 137 494 kg Marijuana with a street value of R214 061
Stolen vehicles: 8 (3 x trucks valued R2.4m, 1 x Jeep and 1 x BMW valued at R920 000 and 3 x bakkies
valued at R645 000)
Illegal Nationals: 212
Stolen livestock: 3 x goats
Contraband: R281 232.00 (Food, clothing, shoes, cool drinks and alcohol)
During his speech, Counsellor Logie Naidoo (Speaker of the Durban Council on behalf of Mayor James
Khumalo) gave praise to Lt Col Duncan Russell, OC Durban Regiment and the successes that the Regiment
attained.

During their deployment, Durban Regiment built an additional 2 classrooms and purchased complete sets
of school uniforms for 76 children at the Sinothile Primary School in Pongola. They also negotiated the
donation 6 new Lenovo laptops from the Army Signal Formation to Tholulwazi School.
Durban Regiment received their Freedom of Entry to Durban on 9 July 1982.
