Learning objectives and competencies
Expert knowledge:
After completing the module, the students have gained a fundamental understanding of
how information and communication technologies are interrelated with the operational
value chain. They are familiar with the basic terminology and conceptualizations of
information management and have started to reflect them critically as situated between
the poles of technology and economic application. The students have acquired an overview over the theoretical approaches to information management and business informatics. They have been introduced to the basics of information and communication
technology; they have also acquired comprehensive knowledge of IT-related challenges
in international business.
Socio-ethical competence:
The students are able to critically reflect selected societal consequences of the new
media’s diffusion in the work- and private sphere as well as to take them into consideration in decision making processes. They recognize the importance of information and
information management for efficient cooperation in everyday business practice. The
students have practiced their capability of constructive team work.
Personal competence:
The students have learned to discuss the operational implications of modern information
and communication technology (ICT). They know the interfaces of business and IT
requirements in a company and can lend support in preparing cross-functional decision
making processes.

Application skills:
The students are able to evaluate corporate decisions with regard to the deployment of
and investments in ICT. They can analyze and model the basics of international business processes. Based on their acquired methodological skills, they are able to identify
problems and prepare solutions in pre-defined situations and specific contexts.
