authority is connected to the southern part of the Dutch
Provinces of Limburg and Liège by numerous bus and
train lines. The fare is based on the pricing structure of
the line you choose to complete your journey: the AVV
fare system, Veolia fare system (the Netherlands),
TEC/SNCB fare system (Belgium), the Heerlen fare
supplement, or the region3tarif fare system.

convenient way to travel between the AVV and
Heerlen transit systems, especially for commuters.
Advantages of this special fare include:

You can use all Veolia lines and the Veolia train until the
Heerlen-Woonboulevard station to continue your journey
within the 6600 „Zentrum Heerlen“ fare zone. It is not
possible to purchase tickets for the AVV–Heerlen fare
supplement zone at the Heerlen-Woonboulevard station.
However, you can validate tickets here that were previously purchased from authorized agents. Alternatively,
you can use your smartphone to purchase a ticket.

The Province of Limburg uses the OV-chipkaart,
an electronic chip card, for its public transit
system. This chip card is valid throughout the
Netherlands. There is an anonymous chip card
that can be purchased from the ASEAG customer
service center (KundenCenter) in the Aachen
Central Bus Station (Bushof), the ASEAG ticket
office in the Aachen Central Train Station, and the
DeutscheBahn office in the Herzogenrath railway
station. You can also purchase a non-transferable
OV-chipkaart, for which you can add credit to your
personal card‘s balance by credit card or PayPal.

vending machines, the bus driver (only single tickets are available in Veolia buses), authorized ticket offices, and customer
service centers.
 Weekly and monthly passes consist of a free customer
card and a fare card, which you purchase additionally. You
can receive customer cards from the customer service center
of the respective public transit authority. Fare cards (weekly/
monthly passes) are available for purchase from AVV ticket offices and customer service centers, and to some extent from
ticket vending machines or the bus driver directly.

Please remember to validate your single tickets before beginning your journey if you purchased them in advance.
Children under 4 years travel for free on cross-border journeys. Children 4 to 14 years need to purchase a child‘s fare.
Dogs travel for free.
Weekly and monthly passes (adult) are transferable.
Monthly passes (adult) also provide free travel to one other
adult and up to three children under 15 years on weekdays
after 7 p.m. and all day on weekends (in Germany) (does not
apply to special on-call public transit in the district of Düren).

supplement ticket: Holders of a valid AVV ticket
(weekly/monthly) for journeys up to the national border
need to purchase a fare supplement ticket (H2 fare category)
for each person for the missing segment starting at the
Herzogenrath railway station for journeys on RE 18.
This ticket needs to be purchased and validated before
beginning the journey. This ticket can also be purchased using
your smartphone. For journeys on the No. 44 bus line, you
need to purchase a ticket from the Dutch fare zone starting
from the Locht Zollamt bus stop.
