Zürcher Kammerorchester – Saison 2015/16 1945 durch Edmond de Stoutz gegründet, zählt das Zürcher Kammerorchester heute zu den führenden Klangkörpern seiner Art. Unter der Leitung von Edmond de Stoutz und später von Howard Griffiths und Muhai Tang erlangte das Ensemble internationale Anerkennung. In der Ära mit dem weltweit angesehenen Principal Conductor Sir Roger Norrington, von 2011 bis 2015, konnte das Zürcher Kammerorchester seine hervorragende Reputation nachhaltig festigen. Ab der Saison 2016/17 wird Daniel Hope Music Director des Orchesters. Regelmässige Einladungen zu internationalen Festivals, Auftritte in den bedeutenden Musikzentren Europas, Konzerttourneen auf fast allen Kontinenten sowie zahlreiche gefeierte CD-Produktionen belegen das weltweite Renommee des Orchesters. Sein breit gefächertes Repertoire reicht von Barock (in historisch informierter Spielweise auf Darmsaiten und mit Barockbögen) über Klassik und Romantik bis zur Gegenwart. Bemerkenswert ist zudem die Zusammenarbeit mit Musikern aus anderen Bereichen wie Jazz, Volksmusik und populäre Unterhaltung. Die Nuggi-, Krabbel-, Purzel-, abc- und Kinderkonzerte, die Vermittlungsarbeit mit Kindern und Jugendlichen sowie die Förderung junger Instrumentalisten sind dem Zürcher Kammerorchester ebenso wichtig wie die kontinuierliche Zusammenarbeit mit weltweit gefeierten Solisten. Sir Roger Norrington has been the orchestra’s Principal Conductor from 2011 until 2015. An internationally acclaimed conductor, Sir Roger Norrington is a leading figure of historically informed performance practice and continues exploring this approach in his concerts and recordings. Wishing to take their passion and exploration of the baroque repertoire a step further, the orchestra has been playing on gut strings and baroque bow since season 2011/12. Daniel Hope will be the Music Director of the orchestra from the 2016/17 season. Regular invitations to international festivals, performances in the major musical centres of Europe, extended concert tours through various countries around the world bear witness to the Zurich Chamber Orchestra’s worldwide reputation. Numerous critically acclaimed CDs document the ensemble’s artistic work. Besides cultivating a broad repertoire ranging from baroque to classical and from romantic to contemporary music, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra not only frequently attracts attention by rediscovering forgotten composers, but also by collaborating with musicians from other genres such as jazz, folk music and popular entertainment.
