Viel Lärm um nichts - Das 8. Folkwang Shakespeare-Festival
Willkommen zum 8. Folkwang Shakespeare-Festival – diesmal geht es um „Viel
Lärm um nichts“. In keinem anderen Stück Shakespeares wird so viel belauscht,
beobachtet, spioniert, denunziert und fehlinformiert. Das Stück ist ein abgründiges,
verwirrendes Spiel um Sprache und Kommunikation, Rollenverhalten und
Voyeurismus. Die Wahrheit, die man zu erkennen meint, ist die größte Lüge.
Können wir dem, was gesprochen wird, vertrauen? Alles ist Theater in dieser
Komödie und das Publikum sitzt mittendrin.
Ein Stück um die Kraft der Worte und das Miteinander, wie gemacht für die Idee
unseres Festivals, in der Theaterarbeit gemeinsam, international, Sprachbarrieren
überwindend erlebbar wird. Wir wünschen viel Freude bei den nationalen und der
an Folkwang zusammen erarbeiteten internationalen Inszenierung.

Much Ado About Nothing - The 8th Folkwang Shakespeare Festival
Welcome to the 8th Folkwang Shakespeare Festival – this time, the focus is on
“Much Ado About Nothing“. In no other Shakespeare play is there so much
eavesdropping, keeping watch on, spying on, denunciation and misinformation.
The piece is a cryptic, confusing play about language and communication, role
behaviour and voyeurism. The truth, which seems to be discernible, is the greatest
lie of all. Can we trust what is being said? In this comedy, everything is theatre and
the audience sits right in the heart of it.
A play about the power of words and human interactions – the perfect choice
for the idea of our festival, in which theatre work is experienced as jointly and
internationally overcoming language barriers. We hope you will enjoy both - the
national productions and the international production developed at Folkwang.

Tony Smith | Inszenierung
Tony ist Absolvent des australischen “National Institute of Dramatic Art Voice
Studies” und arbeitete als Schauspieler in Brisbane. Er ist Leiter des Studiengangs
„Theatre Practice“ am Victorian College of the Arts, unterrichtet Sprechen, Schauspiel und Shakespeare und hat bei vielen Stücken und Projekten Regie geführt oder beraten. Er ist Alexandertechnik (AT)-Lehrer und leitete die erste
Konferenz zu „AT und die Darstellenden Künste“ in Australien. Arbeitsschwerpunkt
bildet die Einbindung der AT in die Sprech-, Bewegungs- und Schauspielausbildung. Er arbeitet außerdem als Berater für LehrerInnen, JuristInnen und andere
professionelle SprecherInnen.
Tony Smith | Directing
Tony worked as an actor in Brisbane and is a graduate of Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art Voice Studies. He is Head of BFA Theatre Practice the
Victorian College of the Arts, teaches Voice, Acting and Shakespeare and has directed and coached on many plays and new works. He is an Alexander Techniques (AT) teacher and led Australia’s first AT and the Performing Arts Conference. Research interests include the integration of AT into voice, movement
and actor training. He also has an established private practice as a performance
consultant working with teachers, lawyers and other professional voice users.
Alister Smith | Inszenierung
Alister ist Gründer und künstlerischer Leiter der The Smith Company, einer in
Melbourne basierten Produktionsstätte für neues Theater (gegründet in 2005).
Er hat in verschiedenen künstlerischen Bereichen als Regisseur, Choreograph,
Produzent und Autor gearbeitet. 2012 schloss er sein Postgraduate Diploma in
Performance Creation (Regie) am Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) ab. Während
seiner Zeit am VCA inszenierte er mit Studierenden des dritten Jahrgangs
“The Howard Barker Project”, “The Dumb Woman’s Ecstasy” und “Yakiniku Dragon”
in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Victorian Arts Centre for the Southeast Asian
Playwrights’ Festival. Seine Abschlussinszenierung war John Patrick Shanleys Stück
„DOUBT“ (mit dem Pulitzer-Preis und Tony Award ausgezeichnetes Stück).
Alister Smith | Directing
Alister is the founder and Artistic Director of The Smith Company, a Melbourne
based production house of new theatre (est. 2005). He has worked as a director,
choreographer, producer and writer across a broad stream of artistic disciplines.
He graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance Creation (Directing)
in 2012 from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA). Whilst at the VCA Alister
directed the third year students in The Howard Barker Project, The Dumb Woman’s
Ecstasy and Yakiniku Dragon, in association with the Victorian Arts Centre for the
Southeast Asian Playwrights’ Festival. His graduating production was John Patrick
Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony award-winning play DOUBT.
