Studentische(r) Assistierende(r) gesucht
The Geographic Information Visualization and Analysis (GIVA) group at the Department of Geography,
University of Zurich, is looking for a student assistant to help developing new materials for the course
GEO873 ‘Cognitive Issues in GIScience’. The course addresses fundamental principles and questions of
Spatial Cognition, i.e., how people perceive and memorize the environments they interact in, how they
reason about space, and how they communicate spatial information to others. Lego Mindstorms robotics
is used to make these principles more tangible.
The task of the student assistant will be to help developing educational materials that introduces students
to the operation and programming environments of the Lego Mindstorms system. This will include both
researching suitable existing resources and developing new materials.
We expect the assistant to have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geography or related
disciplines. Some programming experience is a prerequisite. Ideally, the successful candidate will have
worked with Lego Mindstorms before.

Die Gruppe Geographische Informationsvisualisierung und Analyse (GIVA) des Geographischen Instituts,
Universität Zürich, sucht eine/n studentische/n Assisterende/n für die Unterstützung bei der Erarbeitung
von neuem Kursmaterial für den Kurs GEO873 „Cognitive Issues in GIScience“.
Der Kurs behandelt wesentliche Prinzipien und Fragestellungen der Raumkognition: Wie nehmen
Menschen ihre räumliche Umgebung wahr; wie merken sie sich sie? Wie schlussfolgern Menschen über
den Raum; wie kommunizieren sie über ihn? Wir verwenden Lego Mindstorms Roboter, um diese
Prinzipien anschaulicher zu machen.
Die Aufgabe der/s Assistierenden wird es sein, Material für diesen Kurs zu mitentwickeln, welches die
Studierenden darin unterstützt den Umgang mit dem Lego Mindstorms System zu erlernen. Hierzu wird
die/der erfolgreiche Kandidat/in existierende Materialien evaluieren und neue Materialien vorbereiten.
Die/der erfolgreiche Kandidat/in hat ein abgeschlossenes Bachelor-Studium in Informatik, Geographie
oder in ähnlichen Studiengängen. Grundvoraussetzung ist Programmiererfahrung; idealerweise im
Zusammenhang mit Lego Mindstorms.
