この leave は他動詞で「から離れる；を去る」という意味。

another female は「他の雌」。助動詞 will はここでは，習性の意味で「…するものだ」となる。behind は，こ
こでは前置詞ではなくて副詞で「あとに」。
■ 日本語訳
オオカミは，子どもを育てるのにおもしろいやり方をする。雌のオオカミは，出産をする準備ができる
と穴を掘る。この穴の中で雌は赤ん坊を産む。これらの赤ん坊の世話をしている間は，他のオオカミが雌
に食べ物を運んでくる。赤ん坊が少し大きくなったあとは，母親は，群れの他の仲間たちと一緒に狩りを
するために出かける間，赤ん坊をあとに残していくことができる。その場合には，母親の代わりに，他の
雌が子どものオオカミを守るためにあとに残ることになる。
