Cadre organisationnel The Capacity Development Office (CDO) of the United Nations Department for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is recruiting an intern to assist with the management of a large development aid programme. The Development Account (un.org/esa/devaccount/) is a capacity development programme of the United Nations Secretariat aimed at enhancing capacities of developing countries in the areas of economic and social affairs. It has an annual budget of around $20 million, funding projects implemented by 10 entities of the UN Secretariat (DESA, the five UN Regional Commissions, UNCTAD, UNEP, UN-Habitat and UNODC). The programme was originally established in 1997 and since then 300 projects have or are being implemented for a total budget of $186 million. The CDO is seeking highly motivated graduate students who wish to gain professional experience in development cooperation work within an international organization in order to supplement their studies. This internship is a practical educational experience and will provide interns the opportunity to work in a multicultural, intergovernmental organization. Formation To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation; • Be computer literate in standard software applications. However, applicants are encouraged to list all relevant work experiences in their personal history profile. Connaissances linguistiques English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the advertised internship, fluency in oral and written English is required; knowledge of French is desirable.
