Theme and Academic Programs
On behalf of the Organising Committee of the Eighth World Archaeological Congress it is
WAC Congresses are organized around overarching themes,
28th August to 2nd September 2016. This is the ﬁrst time that the main conference of

2016 年夏、世界中の考古学者を京都へお招きできることは、世界考古学会議第 8 回京都大会
そしてその現代社会との関わりについて、話し合う国際的な舞台であり、東アジアで本大会が開
催されるのは今回初めてです。国内の研究者が連携・協力し、議論の場を準備し、世界中の考古
学者と問題を共有したいと願っています。
大会の会場は千年の古都の中心に位置する同志社大学です。歴史が重なり、文化遺産に囲ま
れた京都は、世界考古学会議にふさわしく、様々な企画、テーマ性の高い多様な分科会をご用意
いたします。世界のみなさまが、この京都の地で日本の豊かな文化、考古学、文化遺産を知ってい
ただけるよう尽力してまいります。

What is WAC?
The World Archaeological Congress (WAC) is a non-governmental,
not-for-proﬁt organization and is the only representative
world-wide body of practicing archaeologists.
WAC seeks to promote interest in the past in all countries, to
encourage the development of regionally-based histories and to
foster international academic interaction. Its aims are based on the
need to recognize the historical and social roles as well as the
political context of archaeology, and the need to make
archaeological studies relevant to the wider community.
WAC is an international forum for discussion for anyone who is
