Focus! 2015 ～世界で輝く城西生～ 2015 年 11 月 25 日 発行 vol.2 たくさんの行事があった 10 月。いろいろなイベントに参加し、多くの思い出ができたようです。学校にも慣れ、友達もたくさん でき、アメリカでの生活を楽しんでいる様子がうかがえます。来月も多くのイベントが待っているようです。素晴らしい経験を重 ね、成長して欲しいと思います。 高校 1 年生 A さん 【アメリカ・Blanchet Catholic High School（本校提携校）】 「PRIDE WEEK」 PRIDE WEEK started at school on September 28th. During this week, students should put on special clothes which are designated every day. For example, COLOR WARS, Spirit Wear (school clothes), Hawaiian Dress-up Day (Hawaiian shirts, lei, kukui, etc.), and so on. When you wear it, you have to tell your name to the teacher and then your grade gets points. However, you don’t have to do it. If you don’t wear it, your grade loses points. Finally, the grade that has the most points gets to have a pizza party. The first day was “dress-down day,” so we could wear jeans. Many students wore them. I did too, but I didn’t say my name to my teacher because I didn’t know the point system. The second day was “suits and boots” dress-up day for Mass. Girl students should put on skirts, and boy students should put on a tie, so there are so many students who put on suits. They were soooo cool. And this day, I understood the point system, so I told my name to my teacher and got a point. I checked our grade’s points. It was about negative 200 points. It was very low, so I was surprised. The third day was Hawaiian Dress-up day, but I couldn’t join in that day because I don’t have any Hawaiian shirts. The fourth day was COLOR WARS. My grade, the 10th grade’s color was black. So I put on black pants. The last day was Homecoming. It is a kind of dance party. I think almost all the students went there. I was nervous, because it was the first time for me, but I was able to enjoy it. In addition, when we were dancing, senior students talked to us. It made me very happy. 9 月 28 日から PRIDE WEEK が始まりました。毎日指定された洋服を着るという行事です。もし、指定された 洋服を着てきたら、先生に自分の名前を伝えると自分の学年がポイントを手に入れることができます。着てこな くてもいいのですが、その学年はポイントを失ってしまいます。最終的に、一番多くのポイントを手に入れた学 年がピザパーティーに行けます。最初の日は Dress down day でした。ジーンズパンツを着ることができるので、 多くの生徒はそれを着てきます。でも私はポイントシステムを知らなかったので、先生に名前を言いませんでし た。2 日目は“Suits and Boots”Dress up day で、多くの生徒がスーツを着ていて、かっこよかったです。この 日にポイントシステムを知ったので、先生に名前を伝えることができました。3 日目は Hawaiian Dress up day、 4 日目は COLOR-WARS でした。最終日は Homecoming というダンスパーティーです。ダンスパーティーは初めてで緊 張していましたが、楽しむことができました。 高校 1 年生 杉田 美波さん 【アメリカ・Salem Academy High School（本校提携校）】 「アメリカならではの生活」 Two months have passed since I came study abroad. I feel time is passing faster since school started. I a little more accustomed to school, but I cannot settle down completely yet. We had “Spirit days” this month. On those days, we went wearing a theme of clothes that was determined by the school. Salem Academy does not have school uniforms. It was an awesome experience for me to do that, because it is different from Japan. Everyone was wearing unique clothes, so that was so fun. Monday was “Murica Monday.” We wore clothes like an American flag that day. Wednesday was “Preppy vs Nerdy”. We wore a suit or clothes like a nerd. That day, I became nerdy. There were many people at the football game. That was so exciting, because that game’s score was 61 to 0. Exactly, we won. After the game, we had party in the gym at 10 o’clock. The theme of the party was 80’s. So many of us wore clothes like 80’s, and we danced to 80’s songs. It was so exciting. That also does not exist in Japan, so it was great to have experienced it. The party finished at 11:30. However my host father came to pick me up kindly. And he said “Enjoy this experience.” I think I’m very lucky because my host family is very kind. 留学に来て 2 カ月が経ちました。学校が始まってからは時間が経過するのがあっという間に感じます。2 カ月 も経ったということで学校生活には慣れたのですが、やはりまだ少し落ち着かないところがあります。 今月は「Spirit days」と言って学校で一週間その日のテーマにあった服を着ていくという日がありました。 Salem Academy には制服がないので、日本とは違うアメリカならではの新たな経験ができてよかったです。皆と ても個性的な服装をしていてとても楽しかったです。 「Murica Monday」という日にはアメリカ国旗をイメージし た服装を着たり、 「Preppy vs Nerdy」という日には皆スーツを着たり、メガネをかけたりしていました。私はそ の日 Nerdy 派になりました。金曜日の学校のあとには「Home coming party」があり、フットボールの試合と体 育館でパーティーがありました。その日のフットボールの試合には多くの人が集まりとても盛り上がりました。 結果も 61 対 0 で Salem Academy の圧勝でした。そのあと 10 時から体育館でパーティーがありました。その日の パーティーは 80 年代をイメージしたパーティーで、皆 80 年代をイメージした服装をしたり、80 年代の音楽で ダンスしたりしてとても楽しかったです。これもまた日本の学校にはないことなので経験できてとてもよかった です。 パーティーは 11 時 30 分に終わったのですが、 私のホストファザーは快く学校まで迎えに来てくれました。 その帰り道にホストファザーが「この経験を楽しみな。」と言ってくれました。本当に良いホストファミリーで 良かったです。 高校 2 年生 船橋 陸くん 【アメリカ・Sweet Home High School（本校姉妹校）】 「忘れられない思い出」 I had an experience that I will never forget in my life. It was a senior night soccer game. In the U.S. we don’t play one sport for entire year. Each sport has a season so if the season is finished we play another sport. The senior night was the last game of this season which means the last high school soccer game for senior players. There were nine senior players include me. Our names were announced and we gave a present to our parents. The score was 2-3 and we lost. When the game was over I tried not to cry but when I saw my teammates I couldn’t keep my tears from flowing. The first friends I made at this high school were members of soccer team. They considered me as a part of the team even though I could not speak English at all. I had lunch with them all the time. I had a good time on the bus too. At this school we get off school early when we have a game and go to the game by school bus. After the game we usually had dinner together which was pretty fun. I am so glad that I could play and spend such a great time with this team. Next season wrestling and swimming are going to start, so I want to try one of them. I experience new and fresh things every day. It has been almost two months though. About the academy, I am keeping good grades for now, and I will do my best to make thm better. これまでの人生で素晴らしい思い出の一つになるような出来事がありました。それは、シニアナイトのサッカ ーの試合でした。この学校では、日本のように一年間を通して部活をしません。シーズンごとにスポーツが分か 城西大学附属城西中学・高等学校 〒171-0044 東京都豊島区千早 1-10-26 ※本記事の文章および画像の無断転載を禁ず れていて、シーズンが終わるとほかのスポーツが始まります。そしてこのシニアナイトの試合はこのシーズン最 後の試合でした。最高学年であるシニアの生徒にとってはこの試合が高校サッカー最後の試合でした。私を含め て 9 人のシニア選手がチームにいました。試合の前には、１人ひとり名前が呼ばれて記念品をもらったり記念撮 影をしたりしました。ゲームのスコアは２－３で惜しくも負けてしまいました。ゲームが終わった時、涙をこら えようとしましたが泣いているチームメイトを見て自分もこらえきれませんでした。私がこちらにきて初めてで きた友達はサッカーチームのメンバーでした。英語のあまり話せない私もチームの一員また一人の友達とみてく れました。休みの日に一緒に練習をしたり休み時間を一緒に過ごしたり沢山の時間を彼らと一緒に過ごしました。 特に試合終わりのみんなでバスのなかで話したり音楽を聴いたりしながらご飯を食べたのはいい思い出です。こ のチームでプレイできたことをうれしく思います。次はレスリングと水泳が始まるのでどちらかに参加しようと 思います。 高校 2 年生 上田 茉尋さん 【オーストラリア・All Saints’ College（本校姉妹校）】 「様々な体験」 We had about two weeks’ holiday from September to October. I spent a very fulfilling holiday with my host family and friends. I went to many places but my favorite trip was the Mandurah trip with my host family for a week. Mandurah is located 1 hour from Perth and we got there by driving. In the car, I sang my favorite songs with my host sis so we were excited. We were staying at a holiday rental house which was very pretty and big. I was surprised because the river was very close to our house. My host dad has a private boat so we rode it every day and enjoyed many activities! The scenery from the boat was great and I thought “I am very lucky to be here!” We did a very fun activity called “Donut ski.” This activity is riding a float shaped like a donut that is connected to a rope and a boat, so when the boat goes we go too! At first, I found it very hard trying to balance on the float but I was getting used to it so I really enjoyed it in the end. Also we watched some dolphins when we were riding in the boat and doing activities. We wanted to see them much closer so we went searching for them in a kayak. Before we went my host sis told me “most of dolphins are very friendly and love people” so I looked forward to it even more. We were paddling for a few minutes when three dolphins came close to us!! I was surprised because they came even closer to us than I imagined. I was really glad to see them because I didn’t think we could see them so close. At night, my host dad took me fishing. It was my first time fishing so I was anxious at first but he clearly told me how to do it so I enjoyed it. Unfortunately we didn’t catch anything however this experience was an excellent memory. Then I saw lots of stars and the Milky Way from the boat. Surely I will never forget it because I think it was the prettiest starry sky ever. I spent a week which was very fun and fulfilling with my host family, and I experienced many great things which I cannot do in Japan. I appreciate my host family because they gave me an awesome holiday. 9 月から 10 月にかけて二週間程の春休みがありました。休暇中は、ホストファミリーや友達と一緒にとても充 実した日々を送ることができました。色々な所へ行きましたが、中でも一番思い出に残っているのは、ホストフ ァミリーと一緒に行った Mandurah への旅行です。Perth からは、車で一時間弱のところにあります。車内では、 ホストシスターと一緒にお気に入りの音楽を聴いたり、歌を熱唱したので、その時からテンションが上がってい ました。私たちは、とても大きくて綺麗なホリデイレンタルハウスにステイしました。そこからとても近いとこ ろに川があったので、びっくりしました。ホストファザーがプライベートボートを持っていたので、毎日それに 乗って川遊びを満喫しました。川の上から見る景色は本当に素晴らしく、こんなところに連れて来てもらえてラ ッキーだな、と思いました。私は「ドーナツスキー」と呼ばれている、とても楽しい水上アクティビティに挑戦 しました。ドーナツ型の浮き輪に乗り、ボートと浮き輪についているロープを繋いでボートに引っ張ってもらう、 というアクティビティです。最初は浮き輪の上でバランスをとるのが難しく、苦戦しましたが、だんだんコツを 城西大学附属城西中学・高等学校 〒171-0044 東京都豊島区千早 1-10-26 ※本記事の文章および画像の無断転載を禁ず 掴んできたので、最終的に楽しむことができて良かったです！また、私たちがボートに乗っている時や、アクテ ィビティをやっている時にイルカをよく見かけていたので、もっと至近距離で見てみたいと思い、ホストシスタ ーと一緒にカヤックに乗って探しに行きました。何分か漕いでいると、三匹のイルカが私たちのすぐそばまで泳 いできました！想像していたよりもずっと近くに来てくれたので、びっくりしました。こんなに間近で見られる とは思っていなかったので、本当に嬉しかったです。夜には、ホストファザーが釣りに連れていってくれました。 釣りは今回が私にとって初めての経験だったので、最初は少し緊張しましたが、彼が分かりやすく教えてくれた ので、楽しんで取り組むことができました。残念ながら何も釣ることはできませんでしたが、それも含めて素晴 らしい思い出になりました。そしてボートからは、満点の星空と天の川を見ることができました。きっと今まで 見てきた中で一番綺麗な星空だったと思うので、忘れることはできません。日本では中々できないこともたくさ ん経験することができ、とても楽しく、充実した一週間を過ごすことができました。心からファミリーの皆さん に感謝しています。 高校 1 年生 大陸 虹けい さん【アメリカ・Sweet Home High School（本校姉妹校）】 「私の誕生日」 My birthday was this month and I turned 16. Here in America, you can get your driver’s license and I’m very jealous. All of my friends except one person can drive. They can drive to go shopping and they can also drive themselves to school. So, sometimes my friends will give me a ride me to school or pick up me from my house. For my birthday, a lot of people sang a birthday song for me and I was super impressed. I thought they would forget my birthday, but they didn’t. The day after my birthday, my mom’s mother and sister came over to my house and gave me 16 birthday presents. She gave me 16 presents because I’m 16 years old. It was my first time to get such a large amount of presents. Some of the things I got were a water bottle, snacks, and some everyday things, like socks. I hear it’s common to celebrate like this in America. Here in America a birthday equals a birthday party. I invited almost 10 people. We just danced, played UNO, jumped on the trampoline, did magic, and we made a home pizza. Making home pizzas was very fun, because we can make our own pizza. I don’t like green pepper so I didn’t put any green pepper in it. We enjoyed it very much. Halloween is coming soon, and I am very excited. I am going to dress up as a vampire witch. We will have a Halloween party and I can’t wait to see my friend’s costumes. There will be a costume competition and the winner can get a prize so I really want to win and get the prize. There have been a lot of activities this month, so I’m a little bit tired, but I’ll get rest and get ready for next month. Also, November equals “Thanksgiving Day!” I know that lots of Americans celebrate that day. Furthermore there are big sales the day after Thanksgiving Day called “Black Friday”. So I am very excited about it. My host family will go and my friends will go there too. I hope I can see them. 今月は私の誕生日がありました。たくさんの人がバースデーソングを歌ってくれました。みんな私の誕生日忘 れているかと思いましたが覚えていてくれました。次の日にホストのおばあちゃんとお母さんの妹が家に来て、 16 歳ということでプレゼントを 16 個もくれました。こんなに一気にたくさんのプレゼントもらったのは初めてで 感動しました。アメリカではよくこんな風に誕生日を祝うそうです。アメリカで誕生日といえばバースーデーパ ーティー！10 人ほどを家に招待し、いろいろなゲームをしました。ピザ作りもしました。オリジナルのピザが作 れるので特に楽しかったです。 もうすぐハロウィン。魔女に変身する予定です。みんなが仮装をします。ハロウィンパーティーが友達の家で あり、みんなが仮装するのでみんなの仮装見るのも楽しみです。コンテストもあり、賞品をもらえるそうなので 優勝したいです。そして 11 月は THANKS GIVING DAY！アメリカのたくさんの人はお祝いしているそうです。 その次の日にセールがあり、アメリカでは“ブラックフライデーショッピング”と呼ばれています。ホストファ ミリーも友達もいろんな人が行くのでみんなに会えるといいです。 城西大学附属城西中学・高等学校 〒171-0044 東京都豊島区千早 1-10-26 ※本記事の文章および画像の無断転載を禁ず
