In Japan, there are the phrases ‘Spring Equinoctial Week’ and ‘Autumn Equinoctial Week’. Many people visit ancestor’ graves during these weeks. In China, Qing-Ming in April is the day when people visit their ancestors’ graves, like the Japanese O-Bon. Qing-Ming, one of the 24 solar terms, falls around 5th April. Because this season is a beautiful period when the air is clear and flowers start to bloom, it is named Qing-Ming which means “clear and bright” in Chinese. In the past, Chinese people usually prepared flowers, incense sticks, and foods such as sweets and alcohol when they visited a grave. Of course, afterwards they took home the sweets and fruits offered to their ancestors and ate them. There is a saying that ancestors protect you when you eat offering foods. However, offerings are changing due to China’s rapid development. Nowadays when you go to offering stores during Qing-Ming season, you can find paper cellphones, paper mahjong tiles, paper computers, paper credit cards and other paper items which are identical to the real thing! With the addition of these paper versions of recreational items and daily necessities, as well as traditional offering items like foods and flowers, the selection of offerings has become very diverse. The Chinese believe that these paper offerings will reach heaven if you burn them. Because China was not that rich in the past, Chinese people struggled just to survive. Eating was a more important activity than anything else. That’s Paper Offerings why offerings mainly consisted of foods. However, as China became more affluent, leisure and entertainment activities have also become popular. And since their own lives have got better, people want ☆International Exchange Events Calendar☆ to express their gratitude to the ancestors. This mindset has increased the selection of offerings. Monthly International Culture Event Even if the type of offering has changed, the sense of “Learn Tai Chi to Strengthen Your Body” gratitude to the ancestors remains the same. I think Traditional Chinese Shadow Boxing, also known as Tai that the ancestors are happy just knowing this. Chi, is said to be good for your health and improve (Yuqing Luo, China) longevity! Tai Chi is a martial art that even beginners can learn easily.
