JAPANESE Newsletter March 2015 Dear Students and Families, Konnichiwa! (Hello!) This month, early flowering plants and trees, such as Ume trees (plum trees), deliver the first signs of spring, while the weather is getting noticeably milder. Towards the end of March the cherry blossom season starts in certain regions, while in northern Japan conditions are still good for winter sports. March 3 is Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival or Girls' Festival), when people pray for the happiness and healthy growth of girls. Families with young daughters mark this day by setting up a display of dolls inside the house. They offer rice crackers and other food to the dolls. In March, the first two weeks, we will focus on the “Spring” theme. In second two weeks we will focus on the “Clothes” theme.
