I believe that in fulfilling its mission, the NRRC will contribute significantly to the sustained utilization of nuclear power in the years ahead, both in Japan and worldwide. As the Executive Advisor to the NRRC, I will draw from the knowledge and experience I have gained through my career in the fields of nuclear safety and risk management, including serving as Chairman of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). In that role, I will strive to help the NRRC achieve its goals by providing advice on the course of voluntary safety improvement as well as the target and plans of NRRC's activities. I will serve as the Executive Advisor to the NRRC based on my best independent judgment, without influence by or obligation to any outside person or organization. This same principle applies to my other activities, such as the Chairman of IAEA's International Nuclear Safety Group and as an international advisor to Japanese Nuclear Regulation Authority. The compensation of the Executive Advisor to the NRRC is dependent on the actual number of served days, but it is likely to amount to over one hundred thousand dollars. Very/ruly yauijs, Richard A.
