Construction Dispute Resolution – An Overview Dr. Kenneth Tak Wing Yiu PhD, BSc (Hons), MRICS, MASCE JSPS Fellow Senior Lecturer in Construction Management Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering The University of Auckland Host Researcher: A/Prof. Petr Matous SYNOPSIS Dispute is inevitable in construction projects. Achieving satisfactory dispute resolution has attracted considerable attention among construction practitioners and researchers. In practice, disputes are first negotiated in an attempt to reach mutually acceptable solution before seeking other dispute resolution methods such as mediation and arbitration. This seminar will give a brief review on disputes and their resolution methods and introduce some research studies in construction negotiation. ABOUT THE SPEAKER Dr. Yiu is the awardee of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship 2014. He has been actively conducting research in the field of construction dispute resolution. His major research interests include i) studying the dynamic change in dispute/conflict resolution behavior, ii) investigating the common dispute resolution methods in construction industry– negotiation and mediation and iii) developing behavioral models for construction negotiation and mediation. Dr. Yiu has more than 35 journal articles. Most of them have been published to the leading journals such as “ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management” “IEEE Transactions of Engineering Management”, “ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering”, and “ASCE Journal of Legal Affairs and Dispute Resolution in Engineering and Construction”. <Dr. Kenneth Tak Wing Yiu の紹介> 建設プロジェクトの実施に当たっては、紛争解決が重要なポイントになること が少なくありません。Kenneth Tak Wing Yiu 博士は、日本学術振興会(JSPS) のフェローシップ 2014 の受賞者で、建設プロジェクトの論争解決の分野におけ る幅広い研究を実施されています。 建設企業の法務関係部局の方々を含め、多くの方々の参加を期待しています。
