英語 Multimedia Language Learning I - PD 文学部共通教育(外国語基礎)科目 (Spring 2014) Instructor: Email: Web Page: Class Hours: Classroom: Advising: Yasuo Nakajima 中島康雄 TBA http://www.tsuru.ac.jp/~speech/ Wednesday 4th period (2:50pm - 4:20pm) 3303 (MLL) In class and by email COURSE GOALS The main focus of the course is developing students’ reading and listening skills. It also offers them learning materials using the multimedia language laboratory system, such as ALC NetAcademy and some others for practice in pronunciation (shadowing, overlapping, etc.). Students are expected to attend class meetings as scheduled, participate in classroom activities, and complete assignments on time. COURSE DESCRIPTION First, students are going to learn how to pronounce English vowels and consonants using sound data on the web and mimicking model pronunciation in class. Second, they mimic real spoken English and memorize how to say in the real world by means of video material, which was created for first-time travelers abroad. The skits of the material are the ones travelers tend to encounter in foreign countries. Thus, students are required to speak real English just as they are in the real situation of the skits. And third, they will learn what parts they need to alter and how. Aspects of sound change, stress accent locus, intonation, bodily behavior, eye-contact, facial expressions, etc. may be what they need to learn. The final exam is a fluency/memorization test. For more detail, see “QUIZZES & EXAMS” below. One class meeting is devoted for 1-2 chapters of the textbook.
