In this major, students will learn graphic design in advertisement, printed media and web design, illustration in books and
character design as well as illustration in picture books and product design for consumer electronics and other tools and furniture
according to their fields of specialty. The goal is to produce creative designers equipped with technical skills, planning skills and a marketing sense.

With the goal of debuting as comic authors, students will learn how to draw
human characters, story development methods, background drawing and the
operation of comic drawing software Comicstudio (CLIP STUDIO) to master the
techniques essential for comic authors.
Students will learn various expression techniques and conceptualization
methods both in analog and digital modes. The goal is to acquire the abilities
that can be applied to illustration, character creation and picture books
as well as web services such as social gaming, etc.

Students will learn how to prepare drawings, handling of various materials, creative thinking and CAD software operation skills, and acquire knowledge
in design in 2D and 3D. The goal is to produce designers who can conceptualize products that make our lives richer.

Mainly centered around oil painting, the major also includes studies in drawing, watercolor
painting and engraving. Through various media of expression,
students will learn observational skills and expressive skills to be able to manifest their worlds
themselves.

油彩画・日本画・染織品・木製品・洋紙・文書、6 分野の保存修復を4年間で学びます。様々な道具・画材の使い方や薬品の取り扱い・
作品の分析方法など、学ぶことは多岐にわたり、
「保存修復」
に必要な能力を身につけます。
Over the span of four years, students will learn conservation and restoration in the
following six fields; oil painting, Japanese painting, dyed craftworks,
wooden craftworks, western paper and documents. The subjects cover a wide range
including how to use various tools and art supplies, handling of chemicals and methods of
analyzing articles, through which the skills of "conservation and restoration" are gained.

Through the studies in drawing, gradation, etc., studens will learn how to use various tools, ways to create
colors and composition as they create portraits, landscape paintings and bird-and-flower paintings. The
course is designed for the mastery of the traditional ways to express the enchanting world view in this
unique integration of “calibraphy” and “painting.”

I was able to learn various methods of Japanese craftwork and
hand-made articles. Japan (Tokyo) is a place where many unique
materials are easily available, and Toyo Institute of Art and Design
is a nurturing space for students’ passion for creativity. Though it
was a short period of time, what I’ ve experienced and learned has
become my asset, and continues to be a source of ideas in my
current creative work.

I am grateful for the teachers who have helped me tremendously while I was there. Teachers
treated foreign students so kindly. Additionally, there were many elective classes, which was

I think the goal should be to learn Japanese designs as well as
Japanese culture. I have come to realize that the source of energy
for creativity is your experience and knowledge up to that point as
well as the culture that enabled the environment. I hope students will
make an effort to learn not only Japanese designs, but also
Japanese culture!
To study in Japan, it is important not only to study the courses of your
major, but also to study the Japanese language. Deepening the
understanding of the Japanese language enabled me to learn the
unique ways the Japanese people show concerns for others and how
they communicate, and that is practical knowledge right here where I
work. There were tough moments in classrooms and with
assignments, but all of those are part of my great memories studying
abroad.

留学生担当の先生が、一人一人ケアしてくれるので、留学生活にまだ慣れていな

The school has its well-established private scholarship programs for foreign students. Special
tuition reduction program for self-supporting foreign students and scholarship program for
self-supporting foreign students helped many foreign students lessen the financial load. There
were also counselors who were available for consultation when there were difficulties living
abroad, so I able to relax and concentrate on my studies. The 4-year degree I chose had a very
solid curriculum. The first year was spent acquiring a wide range of knowledge of various
designs in a university lecture style. When it came time to look for employment, the school
supported me in collecting job information, how to write a resume as well as practice for job
interviews, all of which are the most difficult challenges for foreign students. With the help, I was
able launch an aggressive job search.

■ インターンシップ
東洋美術学校は、大学と比べてもカリキュラムが充実しています。実際に多
様な分野で活躍しているクリエイターの先生から授業を受けることが出来るので、
本格的にデザインと向き合える環境です。また授業が土曜日まであって、課題が他
の学校より多いと思いますが、私は国費留学生として奨学金をもらっていたので、
バイトをしない分、課題に集中出来ました。
Toyo Institute of Art and Design has solid curriculums even compared to universities.
Students can learn directly from instructors actively working in various creative fields, and this
creates an environment for full-fledged design work. The classes are open on Saturdays
also, which probably means more assignments than other schools. But as a
government-sponsored foreign student, I was able to receive stipend and did not have to
work, so I was able to focus on my assignments.

Internship 一定期間企業の中で就業体験を行います。
東洋美術学校では数多くの企業との間で、インターン
シップの実績を築いています。また企業から、新規雇用
の前に学生のスキルや人柄を確認したいという要望も
あることから、卒業年度の学生に対して、インターンシッ
プへの参加を推奨しています。
An internship is real work experience at a workplace for a
set period of time. Toyo Institute of Art and Design has built
fruitful relationships with many companies for internship
opportunities for students. Graduating students are also
encouraged to take part in internship programs as
companies often request to check the skills of students and
see the personality before official offers of jobs.

Tokyo Designers Week 東京デザイナーズウィークは、デザイン・アート・建築など
の分野の優れた作品が世界中から集まります。このイン
ターナショナルなデザインイベントに毎年参加しています。
Tokyo Designers Week is an event where great works from
the fields of design, art, architecture, etc., gather from all over
the world. We participate in this international design event
every year.

Senior Production Exhibition 卒業制作展は、東京都美術館で開催されます。学生の表現の場であるとともに、社会に向けた発表の場にもなっています。
より良い暮らしとは何か、アートやデザインで出来ることは何かをテーマに、OECD( 経済協力開発機構 ) が開発した「より良い
暮らし指標」
を作品に取り入れ、社会に向けてメッセージを発信しています
（一部の科を除く）。
Senior Production Exhibition is held at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo. This is a venue for the students to express themselves
as well as to release their works to the general public. Setting the theme as “What is better living? What can art and design do?,” students
send out their messages into the larger society incorporating the “better living index” developed by OECD (Organization for Economic
Co-operation and Development) into their artwork. (Some majors are exceptions.)
