 The lottery in the Edo Period was called “Tomi-kuji”. You can experience the way that “Tomi-kuji” was

 Tondo festival is a fire festival which is held at various places in Japan on January 15. Lucky charms
such as New Year’s ornaments will be burnt at the festival. It is said that people who eat a rice cake
baked with Tondo’s fire will not get sick throughout the year. Baked rice cakes will be served for visitors
on this day.

 All prefectural representative teams will run between Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima,
starting at 12:30pm from the Park, and scheduled to finish around 2:50pm. You can enjoy local dishes
and performing arts from each participating prefecture around the park. There will be traffic control
during the Ekiden. Please follow police instructions.

 Tencho-sai is a festival to celebrate Emperor Akihito’s birthday. Bugaku, musical court dancing, will be

 Bugaku is a musical court dance that was brought to Miyajima from Kyoto by Taira-no Kiyomori.
Bugaku has been preserved at Itsukushima Shrine for 800 years and it is an important cultural asset.

It takes a few hours to go to the top of the mountain from the starting point on foot. Or, you can
ride the ropeway more than halfway up.

 In Japan, it is thought that the first sunrise of the year is a happy event. Many people go out to see the
first sunrise on January 1.
You can see the Seto Inland Sea and Shikoku Region from the top of Mt. Misen, so it is one of the
popular spots to view the first sunrise in Hiroshima.

 Setouchi Shimanami Kaido is the expressway connecting six islands in the Seto Inland Sea with seven
