Prof. Sir Peter Cook RA, founder of Archigram, former Director of the
Institute for Contemporary Art, London (the ICA) and the Bartlett School
of Architecture at University College, London has been a pivotal figure
within the global architectural world for over half a century. His ongoing
contribution to architectural innovation was most recently recognised via
the conferral of an honorary doctorate in April 2010, by the University of
Lund, Sweden. Prof. Cook’s achievements with radical experimentalist
group Archigram have been the subject of numerous publications and
public exhibitions and were recognised by the Royal Institute of British
Architects in 2004, when members of the group were awarded the
RIBA’s highest award, the Royal Gold Medal. In 2007, Prof. Cook was
knighted by the Queen for his services to architecture. He is also a Royal
Academician and a Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres of the
French Republic. He is currently a Senior Fellow of the Royal College of
Art, London. His professorships include those of the Royal Academy,
University College, London and the Hochschule fur Bildende Kunste
(Staedelschule) in Frankfurt-Main, Germany. He has from the very
beginning made waves in architectural circles, however, it is in the last
few years that the construction of his arts building in Graz, Austria (the
Kunsthaus, AKA The Friendly Alien) has brought his work to a wider
public, a process set to continue with the construction of the Vienna
Business and Economics University’s new law faculty and Bond University
in Australia’s new School of Architecture. Prof. Cook has also built in
Osaka, Nagoya, Berlin, Frankfurt and Madrid.

With 40,000 dollars". "The Critique of Architecture", etc. The most recent
work: "Perfect World", Movie Project with American screenplay writer, was
published as a novel book in 2014.
京都精華大学建築学科教授。建築家・小説家。京都大学工学部建築学科卒業。第30
回群像新人文学賞受賞。

家集団であり、彼らがロンドンで出版した同名の雑誌のこと。建築という枠を飛び越え、
詩やグラフィック、
アートを自由に行き来する個性的なビジュアルが話題となり、

ジュなどを多用した実験的なメディア作りとコンセプチュアルなアプローチは建築業界
だけでなくポップカルチャーを愛する人々までもを強く刺激した。）

Arata ISOZAKI ／磯崎新

Arata Isozaki was born 1931 in Oita City, Japan. In 1954, he graduated
from the Department of Architecture in the Faculty of Engineering at the
University of Tokyo. In 1963, he established Arata Isozaki & Associates,
the base from which he has continued to work ever since. From his
1960s work such as Oita Prefectural Library, to his 1990s work in
locations as far afield as Barcelona, Orlando, Kraków, Nagi in Okayama
Prefecture, Kyoto, Nara, La Coruña, Akiyoshidai in Yamaguchi Prefecture
and Berlin, to his 21st century work in the Middle East, China, Central
Asia, and elsewhere, Isozaki has created an architecture so personal in
its ideas and spaces that it defies characterization in any single school
of thought. At the same time he resists the temptation to apply a
signature style to his jobs, preferring instead to create architectural
solutions specific to the political, social and cultural contexts of the
client and site in question. By harnessing the latent strength that has
existed in architecture since its inception, Isozaki has been able to wield
influence on knowledge systems far beyond his own field. In addition,
through his activity as a critic and a jury-member for major public and
private architecture commissions and competitions, he has contributed
significantly to making the visions of the world's most radical architects
a reality. Through Isozaki it became possible that a global discourse be
held at a level where individual voices can be heard. His activities,
spanning over a half century, have gone beyond thought, art, design,
music, film, theatre and of course architecture, and they have raised
questions spanning multiple ages and multiple disciplines.

建築家。1931年大分市生まれ。1963年磯崎新アトリエを設立。以来、国際的建築家とし
て活躍。世界各地で建築展、美術展を開催し、
また多くの国際的なコンペの審査委員、
シンポジウムの議長などを務める。カリフォルニア大学、ハーヴァード大学、イェール大
学、
コロンビア大学などで客員教授を歴任。建築のみならず、思想、美術、
デザイン、文化
論、批評など多岐にわたる領域で活躍。代表的な建築作品に、大分県立中央図書館（現
アートプラザ、1966）、群馬県立近代美術館（1974）、ロサンゼルス現代美術館（1986）、
バルセロナ市オリンピック・スポーツホール（1990）、なら100年会館（1998）、北京中央
美術学院美術館（2008）、ヒマラヤ・センター、カタール国立コンベンションセンター（
2011）など。近年のプロジェクトは、中国の鄭州市鄭東新区都市計画、可動式コンサート
ホールARK NOVAなど。2013年、岩波書店より過去50年間にわたり書いてきた文章を編
集した『磯崎新建築論集』を刊行。
