町を歩けば、往時の面影が残る風情ある土蔵造りの家並みが当時の宿場町、港町の繁栄ぶりを語りかけてくる。
その心意気は今も大川に住む人々に受け継がれています。

榎津・小保の町並み
The History and Culture of our Forefathers
Three centuries ago, in the Edo period, on the border between the Kurume han and the Yanagawa han.
As you stroll through the city today you can still see the old cityscape, the signs of a flourishing port town
with inns and harbor. And the people of Okawa still carry on this proud heritage.
小保・榎津地区は、
それぞれ柳河藩の宿場町と久
留米藩の港町として栄えた地区です。
現在も、
江
戸時代後期から昭和初期にかけての町並みや質
の高い伝統的建造物が残されています。
伊能忠敬も歩いた肥後街道
Enokizu and Kobo Cityscape
The Kobo and Enokizu districts once
flourished respectively as a lodging center on
the the transport route for the Yanagawa han,
and the port town of the Kurume han. A
number of beautiful examples of traditional
architecture remain here today, constructed
from the late Edo to early Showa periods.

旧三潴銀行

明治末期に建造されました。
二階建て、
煉瓦造り、
天然スレート葺き、
モルタル塗りの洋風建築です。
Former Mizuma Bank Building
(important municipal cultural property)
Constructed at the end of the Meiji era, this
two-story Western-style building is made of
brick, with a natural slate roof and mortared
walls.

Border stones
水入町交差点
江戸時代の久留米藩と柳川藩との藩境に立つ石
列です。
伊能忠敬の測量日記にもこの石列のこ
とが記されています。
石柱は28本あり、
高さ、
石
質が異なっていて、
それぞれが交互にたてられ
ています。
Border Stones
Built to mark the border between the
Yamagawa han and the Kurume han in the
Edo period, they are mentioned in the diary of
famous surveyor Tadataka Ino. The 28 stones
are of two different heights and materials, and
are erected alternately.

ロックバンドのボーカルとしてデビューし、

ンサートツアー中に書いた
「ピアニシモ」
で作家
としてのスタートを切り、
エッセイ童話、
詩作、
映画製作といろいろなジャングルで活躍してい
る辻仁成の著作。大川市
に生まれて生きた、母方
の祖父今村豊さんをモデ
ルに描いたのが
「白仏」
で
す。今村豊さんの一代記
をベースに物語は展開さ
れ、
17世紀初頭から開拓
が始った大川市大野島の

"The Palest of Buddhas" Author: Hitonari Tsuji,winner of the Prix Femina
"The Palest of Buddhas," winner of the Prix Femina
Hitonari Tsuji made his debut as the vocalist for a rock band, and began his career as an author
with "Pianissimo," which was written on a concert tour. He is active in a range of genre
including essays, children's stories, poetry and film production. "The Palest of Buddhas" is
modeled after his great-grandfather, Yutaka Imamura, born and raised in Okawa. Based on his
diary, it presents the grand saga of the settling of the Okawa region from the early 17th century,
bringing the people and times vividly to life.
