Accepting Suggestions for Nickname for Historical Resource Center
歴史資料センターの愛称を募集
The city will accept suggestions for a nickname for the Historical Resource Center (old Aizu
Library), a part of which is planned to be opened in late July. The center will be a facility where visitors can
freely learn about Aizu’s history, culture, and forerunners. The city hopes to receive a lot of suggestions.
♦How to Apply: Write your suggestion for a nickname for the Historical Resource Center, the meaning of
the nickname, your postal code, address, name, age and phone number and send a postcard or fax (number:
0242-39-1272) to the Bunka-ka (Cultural Affairs Division). If applying by mail, you only need to write the
postal code (965-8601) and division name on the envelope. Writing out the full address of the division is not
necessary. *Application from the city’s Japanese language website will be possible.
♦Selection Process: A Nickname Selection Committee will select from among the suggested nicknames.
Commemorative gifts will be given to the person who suggested the selected nickname.

Eligibility Registration for Child Medical Benefit Is Required

National Health Insurance Co-payment
Rates for Seniors Have Been Revised.
国保高齢受給者の医療費の負担割合が見直

The co-payment for costs for medical examinations
received at a medical institution for those who turned 70
years old after April 2 and have National Health Insurance
Benefit Certificates for the Elderly is now 20% of the total
medical expense covered by health insurance excluding
those with a designated level of income or higher (The co-payment is now 30% for those with an income at
the actively working level). Please contact the National Health Insurance and Pension Division for more
information concerning income at the actively working level. Please confirm the co-payment rate on your
National Health Insurance Benefit Certificate for the Elderly which will be sent by the end of the month in
which your 70th birthday falls (for those who were born on 1st day of the month, you will be sent the
certificate by the end of the previous month). There is no paperwork for you to fill out.
♦Eligibility and Co-payment Rate after April:
(1) Elderly recipients born before April 1, 1944: According to the Special Reduction Measures, the copayment will continue to be 10% of the total medical fee until the recipient reaches the age of 75.
(2) Elderly recipients born after April 2, 1944: The co-payment will be set at 20% of the total medical fee
from the next month after the recipient’s 70th birthday.
(3) For those with a certain designated level of income or higher, the co-payment is set at 30% of the total
medical fee. Please contact the Kokuho Nenkin-Ka for more details on the designated levels of income.
♦Eligible Period:
Between the month following the month in which the person’s 70th birthday falls and the day before their 75th
birthday. *For those born on the first day of the month, the eligibility period is between the month of the
person’s birth and the day before their 75th birthday.
♦Note:
◎The changes do not apply to senior citizens whose co-payment rate is set at 30%.
◎The city will send new National Health Insurance Benefit Certificates for the Elderly to recipients who
qualify under category 1 above.

The city is implementing radiation inspections on household consumable agricultural products and
other products to relieve concerns about radioactive substances in
food. Those who wish to have agriculture goods intended for
household consumption and/or mountain plants inspected for
radiation are required to make reservations in advance. Please
contact the Kenko Zoshin-ka (Public Health Division) for more
information about the quantity of the goods eligible for inspection,
how to cut them, and other inquiries.

Release of the City’s Test Results for Radiation in Agricultural Goods
農産物のモニタリング検査の結果をお知らせします
In order to ensure the safety of agricultural goods produced in the city, the city is working on
monitoring of these goods. The city has released the results in the leaflets, but they will also be released in
the city’s Japanese language newsletter (Shiseidayori) from now on.
Radioactive substances were not detected in either vegetable items grown in greenhouses and
harvested between March 25 and April 25 or in meat during the same period. In the event that radioactive
substances are detected by the inspection, the item name and the figure will be published. Please see the
city’s website for details. Agricultural goods with radiation levels beyond the prescribed standard (100
becquerel / kg) will not be distributed.

New Counter Service to Receive Certificates in the City Hall Has Started.

Application using newly-introduced tablet
terminals will be available as a counter service for
senior citizens, handicapped people and people who
come with their child or children. The city hall staff will ask the resident questions and enter information
into a computer. Applicants are not required to fill in an application form. They must simply check the
information entered and write their signature on the tablet terminal in order to receive the certificate. Please
feel free to tell the staff if you wish to use tablet service.

Application for Certificates by Touch Panel Service
Owners of Basic Resident Registration Cards (Juki Cards) will be able to apply for the certificates
using newly-installed Touch Panel Terminals. Applicants are not required to fill in an application form.
Simply follow the instructions on screen to apply. After presenting the receipt printed by the machine at the
counter and paying the bill, the certificate or certificates will be issued.
♦Eligible People: Those who have enrolled in the Issuance of Certificates at Convenience Store Services for
their Juki Card.

Accepting Application for Tax Reduction
The lightweight motor vehicle tax will be reduced if
applicants meet certain conditions and apply for the reduction.

disabilities ◎Cars owned by people with disabilities or war
related disabilities ◎Cars owned by people with mental
disabilities or intellectual disabilities, or those who share living
expenses with handicapped persons who are under 18 years old.

In order to receive the medical allowance for children, you are required to register. Even if you have
moved into the city or meet the requirements, unless you register, you cannot receive the subsidy. If your
child meets the following requirements, please register.
♦Eligibility: Children who reside in Aizu Wakamatsu City, were born after April 2, 1996, and are enrolled in
health insurance programs such as Japan Health Insurance Association (Kyokai Kenpo), health insurance
societies, mutual aid associations, or National Health Insurance Association.
*Those who are enrolled in the national health insurance program through the city are not required to register.

Correct Disposal of Garbage and Recyclables

Let’s strive to be a city conscious of waste! Please place garbage and recyclables in your
neighborhood’s designated area by 8:30am on the day of collection.
Garbage Collection on National Holidays in May
On Monday, May 5 (Kodomo no Hi: Children's Day), only burnable garbage will be collected in
zones that normally have Monday collections. On Tuesday, May 6 (a substitute holiday), only burnable
garbage will be collected in zones that normally have Tuesday collections.
May 30 Is Reduce Your Garbage to Zero Day
80% of garbage is burnable. Half of this burnable garbage consists of papers and cloth. Boxes made
of paper and memo pads also can be recycled. Let’s reduce waste by reducing burnable garbage!
Please take this day as an opportunity to think with your family about reducing the garbage you
produce.
