General product information:
The Volume Conversion Device EK280 is an add-on electronic device that converts and displays the volume
measured by a gas meter in operating state to the basic volume (= standard volume) with the aid of the state
variables of pressure and temperature.
The EK280 consists mainly of the following components:
- Aluminum housing IP20.
- LCD module with frontfoil including keypads.
- CPU board with:
•
Six intrinsically safety digital inputs (DE1 to DE6) for passive sensors.
•
Four intrinsically safety digital outputs (DA1 to DA4) and intrinsically safety serial interface SIO (GND,
Ri, DCD RxD, DTR TxD) for data communication.
•
One or two (optional) internal or external mounting pressure sensors (CT30 or 17002 types).
•
One or two (optional) internal or external mounting temperature sensors (Pt500 or Pt100 types).
- Modem-adapter board with internal radio-module (optional) and a GSM antenna for wireless data
communication.
- The CPU board is powered either by an external 30 VDC power supply or by two batteries connected in series
(optionally four batteries connected 2x2 in series). The Modem-adapter board is powered by a battery pack.

Conditions of certification:
1. The intrinsically safe apparatus shall only be connected to associated intrinsically safe apparatus certified for
the intended use. This association shall comply with the requirements of the standard IEC 60079-25.
2. Connectors X23 and X24 cannot be used in hazardous area.
3. Connectors Uext on Modem-adapter board and X9 in CPU board cannot be used in hazardous area.
4. Connectors X17 and X18 can only be connected to temperature sensors defined by the manufacturer in
technical file.
5. Connectors X7, X15, X16, X28, X29 and X30 can only be connected to pressure sensors defined by the
manufacturer in technical file.
