The Technology: the term MicroScale Thermophoresis refers to the
directed movement of molecules in microscopic temperature gradients.
Almost all interactions between molecules and biochemical process
result in a change in size, stability and conformation thus altering the
hydration shell. Such changes in solvation entropy allow quantification
of binding affinities of proteins, nucleic acids, small molecules, ions,
vesicles… as well in standard buffers as in bioliquids (serum, cell lysate).
The talk will cover the theory of Thermophoresis and some applications,
and a practical demonstration of the instrument will follow.
