Official presentation of the 19th Stage of the Grand Tour of Italy in Bassano del Grappa Cima Grappa
A gala evening gala in Bassano del Grappa with special guests from the world of cycling. Everyone will be talking about the
Grand Tour, but also the coming First World War centennial memorial events, bicycle tourism , the Veneto Alpine Foothills
District, and all the beauty of the surrounding area.
Saturday, May 10
“2 Mostre per 1 tappa” (2 Shows for 1 Stage)
Inauguration of two photo exhibitions dedicated to cycling: the first, staged at the IAT headquarters, documents “vintage
bicycles and their riders”. The second show at the Chiesetta dell’Angelo presents the shots taken by two photographers from
Bassano, Andrea Pozzobon and Edoardo Civiero, during their coverage of the 2013 Grand Tour of Italy for a Vicenza area
company.

“Aspettando il Giro” (Eagerly awaiting the Tour): Bassano del Grappa hosts the Mille
Miglia motor race
Some of the world’ s most renowned vintage automobiles will rumble over Ponte Vecchio in evocation of the legendary Mille
Miglia motor race in anticipation of the other wheels soon to be spinning through town.

Everyone in Cassola wants to celebrate the passage of the Grand Tour riders at this fabulous party!
Saturday, May 24
Monte Grappa Bike Day
Cyclists scale the heights of Monte Grappa on Strada “Gen. Giardino” Road and then coast down “Strada Gen. Cadorna” Road
during this non-competitive cycling event held with all motor vehicle traffic stopped for the duration.
Sunday, May 25
Tipi(bi)ci! Typical local specialties for cyclists
This event is dedicated to promoting the combination of the Pink Jersey Race and typical Vicentina culinary specialties in
Bassano’s historical town center.
Tuesday, May 27
“La scalata d’altri tempi” (The climb of days long past)
Organized by Ciclisti Storici Bassanesi, this is a “mini-ascent” of one of the steepest hills in the center of town. Cyclists will
also pedal over Ponte Vecchio. This race is run by riders in pairs: the difference in the times recorded for both that comes
closest to zero wins the “Climbers of days long past” crown.

“Bassano da scoprire … in attesa del Giro!” (Bassano to be discovered - waiting for the
Tour!)
In collaboration with Bassano’s Confcommercio Association, the city “dresses up in pink” while awaiting the big day!
With bikes and cycling as the theme, the exhibition by the Italian National Bike Polo Team in Piazza Libertà demands
appreciation.

19th Stage of the 97th Giro d’Italia 2014
Bassano del Grappa - Cima Grappa
Today is the Big Day! The stopwatch will start for each rider in the spectacular historic center of Bassano del Grappa.
Experts are predicting this to be “…a stage destined to go down in modern bicycle racing history”.
For starters, the amazing “Magico Tempe” will pedal the entire of Cima Grappa doing a “wheelie” amidst other stunts.

Ascent of Monte Grappa by the Austrian and Italian Diversely-Enabled Olympic Teams
During the First World War, Monte Grappa witnessed many scenes of suffering and cruelty. Nearly 100 years later, the
diversely-enabled National Olympic teams of Austria and Italy will both “attack” Monte Grappa in a spirit of peace and
brotherhood.
“Serata d’altri tempi” (Evening of days long past) awaiting the “Ottavio Bottecchia”
Memorial Tour
This entire week of full immersion in the world of cycling would not be complete without “heroic cycling”.
In the early afternoon in the city center, numbers will be assigned to the riders participating the next day in the “Ottavio
Bottecchia” Tour.
The afternoon is the best time to admire Bassano while pedaling around the hills or enjoy a refreshing “Bassanese” aperitif
facing one of the Veneto’s most lovely villas designed by Andrea Palladio.
The evening will come to perfect completion with a sampling of Riso agli Asparagi (Rice with locally grown White Asparagus)
washed down by white “Vespaiolo” wine from nearby Breganze.

“Ottavio Bottecchia” Memorial Tour
Vintage bicycle touring on the unpaved roads of Alta Marca Trevigiana district from Colle Umberto to Semonzo del Grappa.
This return to the past features old-fashioned bicycles and costumes in a land where some of yesterday’s and today’s greatest
cycling champions were born and raced.
Monday, June 2
“Mangia e bevi” (Wine and dine) with the Ciclisti Storici Bassanesi
The final event of a week in which hundreds of wheels will have spun through Bassano and neighboring communities
promises to be a relaxing excursion on the gentle slopes surrounding the town. This “mangia e bevi” (wine and dine) will
come to an end on the famous Ponte Vecchio with a toast all together to the next one.
