A Ph.-D. position is available within the project “NANO-BRIDGE – Heat and mass
transport in NANO-structures by molecular dynamics, systematic model reduction,
and non-equilibrium thermodynamics: An international collaborative effort to develop
authentically multi-scale engineering recipes to BRIDGE the gap among scales and to
validate them for carbon binders in thermal storage and carbon-based nano-filters”.
The project is sponsored by MIUR under the framework PRIN2012 (Progetti di
Ricerca di Interesse Nazionale) and will be carried out in close collaboration with
prof. P. Asinari (Politecnico di Torino) and profs. E.N. Wang (MIT) and N.G.
Hadjiconstantinou (MIT).
The main aim of the project is the development heterogeneous atomistic continuum
models for heat and mass transfer applications. Further information on the topic can
be obtained from the paper “K. M. Issa and P. Poesio, Algorithm to enforce uniform
density in liquid atomistic subdomains with specular boundaries, Phys. Rev. E 89,
043307, 2014”.
The PhD fellowship is awarded for three years and the project will be developed at
Laboratorio di Fisica Tecnica (www.fisicatecnicabs.net) of the Università di Brescia
with an exchange period at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Further information can be obtained by
directly contacting prof. Pietro Poesio ([email protected]).
Applicants must have
-
Master degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics,
or equivalent;
some experience in numerical analysis;
the ability to effectively communicate in English.
Knowledge of Molecular Dynamics is welcomed, but not essential.
Starting date is November 1st 2014. Further instruction for application can be obtained
directly from prof. Pietro Poesio ([email protected]).
