The name Piemonte comes from Medieval Latin Pedemontis, meaning “at the foot of the mountains”, is a beautiful region of hills, birthplace of the modern Italian state and it is perhaps the most classic of the Italian wine regions. FRANCIACORTA
Vineyard area 2,200 hectares Wine production: 1,430,000 hectoliters (85% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot nero and 5% Pinot bianco) Franciacorta is a sparkling wine from Lombardy with DOCG status produced from grapes grown within the boundaries of the territory of Franciacorta. This beautiful zone is less than an hour away from the major cities of Milan and Verona. There are similarities between Franciacorta and Champagne, both are made by the méthode traditionelle process (with the second fermentation taking place in bottle).
