Programme components for which an entry ticket is required
For presentations on Bachelor programmes, study-related subjects, the guided tour at the Faculty of Economics and
Business, and the city walks – you have to register for your place on our website (www.rug.nl/opendag) before the 11th
of April. Once registered you will receive a ticket by email and you will need this ticket to gain entry. On the ticket there
is a code (a number or a letter) which corresponds to the building you are visiting. You will find maps and directions for
all locations in this leaflet. Please ensure you bring your ticket and this leaflet with you either printed out or on your
smartphone/tablet so you are able to find your way!
Programme components with free access
General information fairs
During the Open Day, there are booths with information on student housing, student grants, introduction, sports,
culture, student organizations, etc. on two locations.
Centre: Academy Building (1), rooms A5 and A6, open from 11.30-14.30 hrs.
Zernike Campus: Duisenberg Building (H), Student Plaza, open from 11.30-14.30 hrs
Information fairs on Bachelor programmes
All Bachelor programmes also host an information fair where you can talk to study advisors, students and teachers to
collect course specific information. On the next page you will find an overview of where you can find these information
fairs and when they are open.
Information booths for international prospective students
On three locations, there will be information booths for international prospective students, providing information about
housing, admissions and student life in Groningen.

Consultation with a student counsellor
Would you like to have a talk with a study counsellor to discuss your study choice, money issues, studying with a disability
or other private matters? You can pay him a visit on the general information fair in the Academy building (1), room A5,
open from 11.30-14.30 hrs.

Route description by public transport
BY TRAIN
Groningen is easily accessed by train.
Go to www.9292ov.nl/en or
www.ns.nl/en to plan your journey.
ON FOOT OR BY BUS FROM THE
TRAIN/BUS STATION
to ‘Station Noord’ or bus 11 to ‘Reitdiep/
Zuidhorn’ takes you to venues 13 to 15 –
bus stop Brouwersstraat is your stop. Bus
6 to ‘Vinkhuizen’, bus 8 to ‘P+R Hoogkerk’
or bus 9 to ‘Station Noord/Zernike’ takes
you to venue 17 - bus stop Westerhaven is
your stop.
To Zernike Campus
To the city centre
On foot From the train/bus station it’s a
ten minute walk to the city centre where
you will find venues 1 to 9 and 16: cross
the bridge at the ‘Groninger Museum’, and
walk straight ahead, passing the Ubbo
Emmiusstraat, Folkingestraat, Vismarkt,
Stoeldraaiersstraat and Oude Kijk in ‘t
Jatstraat. For venue 16 (Pathé Cinema) you
take a right at the Gedempte Zuiderdiep.
If you are planning on spending the whole
of the Open Day in the city centre, you will
not need a bus ticket (see below).
By bus Venues 10 to 15 and 17 are further
away from the train/bus station. On foot
you will have to take a twenty minute
walk into account. If you prefer to travel
by bus, a free bus ticket for the day can
be downloaded from 16 March onwards
via www.ontdekhetov.nl/rug2015.
Unfortunately, this site is in Dutch only. If

Please note that these free tickets will not
be distributed on the day, and that without
it you will have to buy a ticket from the
bus driver. Bus 3 to ‘Lewenborg’ or bus 4
to ‘Beijum’ takes you to venues 10 to 12 –
bus stop UMCG Noord is your stop. Bus 2
Zernike Campus is located outside
the city centre, on the outskirts of the
city of Groningen. Bus 11 to ‘Reitdiep/
Zuidhorn’ takes you to Zernike Campus.
At Zernike Campus there are four bus
stops; Crematoriumlaan (1), Nijenborgh
(2), Zernikelaan (3) and P+R Zernike
(Transferium). Please take a look at the
‘Zernike’ map to see which bus stop is
closest to your location. A free bus ticket
for the day can be downloaded from 16
March onwards via www.ontdekhetov.
nl/rug2015. Unfortunately, this site is in
Dutch only. If you need assistance, please

.12 and .42 will bring you to Zernike
Campus directly. If you take a bus
leaving at .27 or .57 you have to change
to bus 11 to ‘Reitdiep/Zuidhorn’ at bus
stop Trefkoel. Ask the driver where you
have to get out!

City Centre
Route description
P+R parking sites
The city centre is not easily accessed by
car, and parking is not free of charge.
A much easier and cheaper option is
to use one of the five P+R parking sites
surrounding the city (Euroborg/P3, Haren/
A28, Kardinge, Hoogkerk or Zernike).
These P+R sites are clearly signposted.
Also see the ‘Circular road Groningen’
map. A ticket costs € 6,00 (car + 5 people).

Car Parks
If you do come to the city centre by car,
you can best use car park Ossenmarkt
for the venues 1 to 9 and 13 t0 15, car
park Boterdiep (entrance Bloemsingel
10) for the venues 10 to 12, car park Bios
or Museum for venue 16 and car park
Westerhaven for venue 17. For more

Coming from direction Delfzijl: take the
northbound circular road ‘Ring
Groningen Noord (N370)’, and exit at
‘Zernike Campus’. Coming from directions
Drachten, Assen or Hoogezand: take the
westbound circular road ‘Ring Groningen
West (N370)’, then take the northbound
circular road ‘Ring Groningen Noord
(N370)’, and exit at ‘Zernike Campus’.

As a visitor to the Open Day you can park
your car on car parks P1, P2, P3, P4, P5
or the P+R Zernike parking site (please
take a look at the ‘Zernike’ map). Car
parks P3, P4 and the P+R Zernike parking
site lie somewhat further away from the
university’s buildings, so we advise you
strongly to park your car on car park P1, P2
or P5. Roadside parking is prohibited on
Zernike Campus!
