Prins Friso Ingenieursprijs awarded during the Day of the Engineer
Allard van Hoeken wins Prins Friso
Ingenieursprijs
Ir. Allard van Hoeken MBA (45), Head of New Energy at Bluewater Energy Services, is elected
Engineer of the Year during the Day of the Engineer. Van Hoeken was awarded the Prins Friso
Ingenieursprijs at the University of Twente in the presence of Princess Beatrix and Princess Mabel. He
received the Prins Friso Ingenieursprijs from the hands of Martin van Pernis, President of the Royal
Institute of Engineers (KIVI). The Institute awards the prize annually.
"Van Hoeken knows how to book international successes by linking technical innovation with business
understanding. He can inspire others to make the shift from traditional energy to renewable energy in
passionate and persuasive way", said jury chairman Micaela dos Ramos.
Allard van Hoeken studied Mechanical Engineering at TU Delft. From 1995, he held various positions
at Bluewater Energy Services, and in 2000 he completed an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau,
France. In 2004 Van Hoeken returned to Bluewater. Since 2009 he is responsible for the markets in
the technological development of BlueTEC, the driving tidal energy generator Bluewater.
The other two finalists for the Prins Friso Ingenieursprijs are Ir. Gijs van den Boomen
(KuiperCompagnons) and dr. Ir. Yvo Saanen (TBA).
