Livina van Eyck,
a hidden life.
Devout sisters in the 15th century
7 September 2014 - 22 February 2015
We take you on a spiritual journey during Van Eyck year
2014. Livina van Eyck, the daughter of Jan van Eyck,
entered the St Agnes Convent beyond Maaseik’s town
walls in 1449. To this end, she received a dowry from Philipp
the Good.
Livina was encouraged to relinquish all worldly possessions
and devote herself to God. She was obliged to make a
spiritual journey, which was described in the innumerable
magnificent manuscripts that were copied by the sisters.
We invite you to journey back in time with us.
Many magnificent objects from Belgium and abroad are
brought together for the first time in this exhibition. It’s a
unique opportunity for Maaseik to present this precious
heritage to you.
