Staging the Unification of a German Nation
Mimmi Woisnitza (Doctoral candidate, University of Chicago, USA)
Mimmi Woisnitza is a PhD candidate in Germanic Studies at the University of Chicago. She is currently
finishing her dissertation "Dramaturgies of the Imagination. Aesthetic Theory and Theatrical Practice in
Lessing and Kleist." The talk sets out to investigate Heinrich von Kleist’s play Käthchen of Heilbronn,
examining its political topography and Kleist's dramaturgy of a political imagination. It poses the broader
question of what effect the staging of a higher political ideal, sanctified by divine intervention, was
intended to have on an audience during Kleist's time.

The Dramaturgy of Memory
Leonardo Moreira (Dramaturg and Director, Companhia Hiato, São Paulo, Brazil)
Award-winning dramaturg and director Leonardo Moreira graduated from the University of
São Paulo and founded his own company Companhia Hiato, which is touring in the
Netherlands in 2014 under the aegis of the Ervaar Daar Hier Theater programme with the
production O Jardim. He will discuss the artistic process of creating O Jardim, a theatrical
landscape of memory, transforming gaps in reality into a fiction.

Stad als Prooi/Stadt als Beute is de titel voor deze open bijeenkomst voor studenten en
belangstellenden. Een zestal prikkelende, korte lezingen zorgen voor een speelse inhoudelijke
kennismaking met het werk van de Volksbühne en de regisseurs Frank Castorf en René Pollesch.
Centraal staat de vraag hoe een stadsgezelschap zich verhoudt tot de globalisering, de democratie
van het individu en de stad als megapolitieke metropool.

Stretching Theatrical Conventions
Edit Kaldor (Independent Theatre Director) in conversation with Lonneke van Heugten (PhD candidate,
ASCA/UvA)
Edit Kaldor is recognized internationally as a unique voice in the contemporary theatre landscape. In her work
she mixes documentary and fictional elements and often works with nonprofessional actors. Her
performances tend to integrate the use of various digital media in a sophisticated but straightforward way. In
the talk she will discuss her recent work in the framework of the European cultural network House on Fire.

Nicholas Till (University of Sussex, UK)
Nicholas Till is Director of the Centre for Research in Opera and Music Theatre, and holds the first
Chair in Opera and Music Theatre in the UK. He is currently undertaking research into early opera
and early modernity in the framework of a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship. He is editor of The
Cambridge Companion to Opera Studies (2012).

Jose Jay Cruz (Artistic Director Transitoria Contemporary Dance Commune, Manila) in
conversation with meLê yamomo (PhD candidate, LMU-Munich, guest researcher/lecturer, UvA)
Jose Jay Cruz is Artistic Director of Transitopia Contemporary Dance Commune. He is active as solo dancer,
choreographer and founding member of the Performance Research Network (PResNt). He is recently appointed
director of MNLX, a festival of new performance taking place at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Jose Jay
Cruz is artist-in-residence at Theatre Korzo in The Hague in April-May 2014 as part of the Ervaar Daar Hier
Programme (www.ervaardaarhier.nl)

Collaborative practices in site- specific theatre in Brazil
Antonio Araujo (Teatro Vertigem/University of Sao Paolo Brazil)
Antonio Araujo is artistic director of Teatro da Vertigem, a Brazilian theater collective devoted to site-specific
theatre and urban intervention. He is also Professor of Theatre Directing at the University of São Paulo. This
lecture will present some aspects of the creative process of Teatro da Vertigem together with some
fragments from their site specific productions. It will also present some contextual elements of the
contemporary Brazilian theater, marked by a new wave of theatre groups and collectives.
