Symposium I:
Crossborder Infectious Diseases and Environmental Hazards: Challenges and Solutions
Cross-border regions often have the treat of international infectious disease outbreaks and
environmental cross-border accidents. There is an urgent need of rapid transnational detection and
response, improved international cooperation and integration of surveillance, and response systems.
This symposium will highlight the challenges for EU regions – including differences in legislation,
medical infrastructure and culture – and discuss shared solutions such as euregional protocols for
public health and hospitals or real-time cross-border dashboards.
