Iatrogenic nerve-related injuries in oral surgery are not
uncommon. The aim of this symposium is to offer an
overview of minimizing risk to the trigeminal nerve in
dental as well as maxillofacial surgical practice with
particular reference to implant surgery. Lectures will
provide an overview of the outcome of nerve injuries
and the therapeutical challenges. The course will further
offer an update in trigeminal neuropathic pain and its
diagnosis and management.
A main lecture from Prof. Tara Renton, King’s College
London, internationally renowned expert, who has set
up a Society on this issue and has established an
international leading programme of trigeminal pain
research and education (Trigeminal foundation http://trigeminalnerve.org.uk/), will be followed by a
multidisciplinary debate.
