When do you need to integrate?
You are obliged to integrate if:
You are not from an EU country, from Switzerland or from Turkey
You have received a residence permit from the
IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service)
What exactly is integration?
"Integration" means that you learn about Dutch society
and how to function in the Netherlands. You can prove
that you have integrated by taking an exam.
You can choose from two different exams: the civic integration exam or the Dutch as a Second Language
State Exam (Staatsexamen NT2). The civic integration
exam tests your knowledge of Dutch society (Kennis
van de Nederlandse Samenleving - KNS) and your
knowledge of the Dutch language (listening, speaking,
reading and writing). The Staatsexamen NT2 tests the
same components, except KNS. The Staatsexamen NT2
is suitable for people who want to enter into education
at a level that is higher than MBO+ (secondary vocational education).
After receiving your residence permit, you have three
years to pass one of the two exams.

For people who receive a residence permit after 1
January 2015 the contents of the civic integration test
and Staatsexamen NT2 will change. The Civic Integration Examination will be expanded with a Dutch Labour
Market Orientation (Oriëntatie op de Nederlandse Arbeidsmarkt - ONA) section. The NT2 Staatsexamen will
also be expanded with a comprehensive test on Knowledge of Dutch Society and the aforementioned ONA
section. Elycio Talen is fully aware of these changes and
its integration courses and NT2 training courses have
been adapted accordingly.
How can you integrate?
In order to integrate, you must choose a school
with a Blik op Werk quality mark, which is
equipped to help you with this. Elycio Talen is one
such school where you can take an integration
course and we provide you with extensive preparation for the exam. 85% of our participants pass the
integration exam, and our participants give us an
average score of 9.2 (according to a satisfaction
survey by Blik op Werk).
An integration course consists of Dutch lessons
and lessons about Dutch society. We have various
lesson programmes, tailored to your options and
requirements. You will take one or several lessons
per week, privately or in small groups.
What are the advantages of integration?
"Mandatory" integration may sound a little strict,
but it does have a lot of advantages. If you integrate, you will find it easier to:
Find work
Find a house
Make an appointment at the doctor's office
or the hospital
Do your grocery shopping
Learn about Dutch society
Understand the rules and customs
What will happen if you do not integrate?
If you do not integrate or if you fail to pass your
test within the specified time, you will be fined.
Depending on your situation, your residence permit may also be declared invalid.
How much does it cost?
Fees are payable for taking lessons and obtaining
your diploma. These costs depend on the number
of lessons that you need.
If you are unable to pay for the integration course
and the exam yourself, DUO can lend you money
for:
An integration course
The integration exam
The Nederlands als Tweede taal course
(NT2)
The Staatsexamen Nederlands als Tweede
taal state exam (NT2)
You cannot spend the borrowed money on other
things.
Elycio Talen can help you to apply for a loan.
