Hartelijk welkom bij onze nieuwsbrief kerstmis.
Ten eerste, een overzicht van de afgelopen evenementen:
Fort Nelson – 23 juni
Vele van onze leden hebben dit historische bezoek aan Fort Nelson meegemaakt. Historische evenementen zijn erg
populair – dus mocht u ideeën hebben voor een zulk evenement in 2014, dan graag horen wij van u!
Jaarlijkse BBQ – 7 juli
Het hoogtepunt van de zomer – dit jaar heeft het weer zich heel goed gedragen! Hartelijk bedankt nogmaals aan
onze leden, John en Petra Miles, voor het gebruik van hun mooie tuin, en ook aan Thea Brown, onze kokkin voor de
dag. Bedankt ook aan Wilma en Folkert van Galen voor het lenen en opzetten van de gazebos.

Nasi Goreng – 3 november
Net als we hebben gedaan de laatste drie jaren, hebben wij onze Nasi maaltijd weer gegeten bij het Tanoshii
(japanse) restaurant in Winchester. 33 leden zijn langs gekomen en hebben genoten van een heel fijne maaltijd met
een paar nieuwe schotels bij de Nasi dit jaar. Het was ook een heel leuke bijeenkomst voor onze leden.
Sinterklaas – 1 december
Al was de Sint druk bezig dit jaar, heeft hij nog de tijd gevonden om op bezoek te komen bij ons in Totton. Hartstikke
bedankt, Sinterklaas, en hartstikke bedankt dat u die twee stoute Pieten hebt meegebracht!
Zoals altijd, was de aanvraag van kinderen om naar het Sinterklaasfeestje te komen erg hoog en 22 kinderen hebben
het evenement meegemaakt.
AANSTAANDE EVENEMENTEN –
Zaterdag 22 februari 2014
Algemene Jaarlijkse Vergadering – Totton & Eling Community Centre. Na de vergadering zullen wij, als gewoon,
erwtensoep krijgen! Dit is uw gelegenheid om suggesties voor evenementen aan te brengen. Wij hebben echt
nieuwe bestuursleden nodig. Zie Members’ Zone..
Maart (datum nog niet bepaald): film avond met kaas, druiven, wijn, enz.
Zondag 27 april – Koningslunch – Ampfield Golf Club. Niet te missen!
Niet te vergeten de nederlandstalige avonden – elke 2e woensdag in de maand – vanaf 19.30 u, The
Cowherds, The Avenue, Southampton SO15 7NN

goede oefening!). Kom even langs!
Lidmaatschaap
Uw lidmaatschap voor 2014 moet op 1 januari betaald worden. Wilt u aub het bijgaande lidmaatschapsstrookje
invullen en samen met uw cheque naar onze Penningmeesteres, Jacqui Meager sturen. U mag ook per standing
order betalen – bijzonderheden staan op het lidmaatschapsstrookje.
Uw ideeën voor evenementen zijn zoals altijd van harte welkom!

Welcome to our Christmas newsletter.
First, a review of recent events.
Fort Nelson – 23 June
Many of our members came on this historical visit. Historical events are very popular – so if you have any ideas for
such an event in 2014, then please get in touch!
Annual BBQ – 7 July
The highlight of the summer. This year the weather behaved itself. Many thanks once again to fellow members John
and Petra Miles for letting us use their beautiful garden, and also to Thea Brown, our chef on the day. Many thanks
also to Wilma and Folkert van Galen for the loan and setting up of the gazebos.
Nasi Goreng – 3 November
Just as we have done for the last 3 years, we went to the Tanoshii (Japanese) restaurant in Winchester. 33 members
came along and enjoyed a lovely meal, with a few new dishes this year with the Nasi. It was also a very nice get
together for our members.
Sinterklaas – 1 December
Even though the Sint was extremely busy this year, he still found time to visit us in Totton. Many thanks, Sinterklaas,
and thank you for bringing the two naughty Piets with you!
As always, the demand from children wanting to come along to the Sinterklaas party was extremely high and 22
children enjoyed the event.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS
Saturday 22 Februari 2014
Annual General Meeting – Totton & Eling Community Centre. After the meeting we will, as usual, enjoy some Dutch
pea soup! This is your opportunity to make suggestions for events. We really need some new committee members,
too. See Members’ Zone.
March (date TBA): film evening with cheese, grapes and wine, etc.
Sunday 27 April – King’s Day Lunch – Ampfield Golf Club. Not to be missed!
Don’t forget the Dutch speaking evenings – every 2nd Wednesday in the month – from 7.30 pm, The
Cowherds, The Avenue, Southampton SO15 7NN
A good opportunity to speak Dutch and nothing but Dutch (and for English members a good practice!). Do come
along!
Membership
Your subscription for 2014 must be paid by 1 January. Please would you complete the subscription renewal slip
attached and send with your cheque to our Treasurer, Jacqui Meager. Alternatively, you can set up a standing order
– details on the subscription form.
Your ideas for events are, as always, very welcome!

Members’ Zone
A plea for Committee members: The current committee consists of 6 members: Alec Reader, Veronique Reader, Jacqui
Meager, Thea Brown, Robert Jansen and myself. This sounds OK, but with their various commitments we could do with
more! Please come forward with whatever time you can offer. Even if it’s to organise just one event which you are keen
on. We organise 5 traditional events: AGM, King’s Day, Summer BBQ, Nasi Goreng meal and Sinterklaas, all of which
have stood the test of time and still prove very popular. We also try and fit in a film evening, a walk and a cycle ride, or
historical visit, but this is all extremely time consuming, so extra pairs of hands would be very very welcome! We would be
grateful for either new committee members, or people who want to organise events. As they say: “Every little helps!”.
The Dutch Centre in London puts on Dutch orientated events throughout the year and has regular Dutch guest

taken over the administration (and eased my workload!). Many thanks, Anousjka. If you haven’t already joined the Group,
and are Facebook minded, please do!
The Anglo-Dutch Website introduction (see link at footer) has now been updated to reflect our current activities (not least
the fact that we now celebrate “King’s Day”! Many thanks to our IT expert committee member, Robert Jansen, for keeping
the website up to date.
