The latest product that combined efforts from the two industries is Ralph Lauren's tech-embedded sports shirt, unveiled last week at the start of the U.S. Open tennis championships. Read more. Confused by ‘wearable tech’ The fashion industry may be gearing up to make ‘wearable tech’ mainstream but according to new research conducted by Phones 4u, 65 percent of consumers are confused by wearable tech and connected home terminology. Wearable tech taking shape by a belly band Behind a glass wall in Drexel University's ExCITe Center, a fully pregnant mannequin stands tall with nothing on but a strip of knitted blue fabric around its bulging stomach. The garment, called a belly band, isn't the latest trend in maternity wear; it's an all-knit, wireless fetal monitor. Drexel's Shima Seiki Haute Technology Laboratory creates smart garments with electronic circuitry knitted right in. Read more. Funding of Wearables apparel DCM has led a $12.2 million Series B funding round of ATHOS, a maker of wearable sensors and performance apparel. Joining the funding round are True Ventures (which was an early investor in Fitbit), existing investor The Social+Capital Partnership, Golden State Warriors Owner Joe Lacob and NBA player Jermaine O’Neal, who played for the Warriors last season. Workwear Dutch aWEARness in the top nine LAUNCH Nordic innovators Dutch aWEARness has been selected as finalist in a competition which aims to commend innovation in material usage. The Launch Nordic challenge reportedly received 65 applications from more than 20 countries, and nine finalists, including Dutch aWEARness, were selected based on their, “positive environmental or social impact on the making of materials and textiles.” Read more Technology New material of microhair MIT engineers have fabricated a new elastic material coated with microscopic, hairlike structures that tilt in response to a magnetic field. Depending on the field's orientation, the microhairs can tilt to form a path through which fluid can flow; the material can even direct water upward, against gravity. Each microhair, made of nickel, is about 70 microns high and 25 microns wide - about one-fourth the diameter of a human hair. Read more. Bij het ontwerpen van kleding staat óf het design óf de techniek centraal. Prof. Hein Daanen wil deze vakgebieden meer met elkaar integreren, bericht Het Parrol. Acknowledgement CLICKNL Het Innovatienetwerk CLICKNL is een onderdeel van de Topsector Creatieve Industrie. Onder regie van het netwerk is een breed gedragen innovatieagenda opgesteld, die nu uitgevoerd wordt. De samenwerking tussen onderzoek, bedrijfsleven en overheid staat hierbij centraal.
