The lecture starts with the design of healthy equipment by which the calves can be stretched repeatedly. The calf
that is often called the second heart, so that stretching of calf improves not only blood flow but also swelling of
the lower limb. The stretching of calf is carried out by dorsi- and plantar-flexing the ankle joint in smooth motion
at slow and steady speed. I will talk about the stretching device from the idea to practical use including patent.
There are many people who experienced low back pain. But there are no effective goods as a countermeasure of
low back pain except back belt which is still in controversial about its effect. I will talk about a simple back
assistive device which utilized rubber belts. The device requires simple rubber belt tension adjustment. So,
reconsidering the Euler’s belt formula, the theory was successfully extended and generalized to analyze a simple
belt buckle. I will show a simple belt buckle having been developed by applying the theory. A belt buckle needs
two or more axes in order to fasten a belt. But according to the theory, a belt can be locked even on a single axis
by overwrapping. The self-locking of belt on an axis was confirmed by the experiment. Utilizing the self-locking
property of belt, a novel clutch and a shaft coupling which work with new principle are explained.
