Particle は（Subject of sentence）
＊わたしはマレーシアじんです。
I am Malaysian.
＊わたしはせんせいです。
I am a teacher.
Q) さとうさんはせんせいですか。
Is Mr Satoo a teacher?
A) はい、せんせいです。
Yes, he is.
いいえ、せんせいじゃありません。かいしゃいんです。
No, he is not a teacher. He is a company employee.
Particle も（Also）
＊さとうさんはにほんじんです。
Mr Satoo is Japanese.
やまださんもにほんじんです。
Mr Yamada is also Japanese.
Q) やまださんもにほんじんですか。
Is Mr Yamada also Japanese?
A) はい、やまださんもにほんじんです。
Yes, Mr Yamada is also Japanese.
いいえ、やまださんはにほんじんじゃありません。
No, Mr Yamada is not Japanese.

After 「これ / それ / あれ」 is particle は.

No, it is not. It is a notebook.

Particle の

After この / その / あの is a noun.

Particle に（To show specific time for an event）
＊６じにおきます。
Wake up at 6o’clock.

A) ６じにおきます。

Particle へ（Indicates direction of movement）
＊だいがくへいきます。
I go to the university.
Q) あなたはだいがくへいきますか。
Are you going to the university?
A) はい、いきます。
Yes, I am going.
いいえ、いきません。
No, I am not going.
Q) あなたはどこへいきますか。
Where are you going?
A) だいがくへいきます。
I am going to the university.
どこもいきません。
I am not going anywhere.
Q) あなたはきのうどこへいきましたか。
Where did you go yesterday?
A) だいがくへいきました。
I went to the university.
どこもいきませんでした。
I did not go anywhere.
Particle で（Mode of transport）
＊わたしはバスでだいがくへいきます。
I go to the university by bus.
＊わたしはあるいてだいがくへいきます。
I walk to the university.
（あるいて：by foot, particle で is not needed）
Q) あなたはなんでだいがくへいきますか。
How do you go to the university?
A) バスでいきます。
I go by bus.
あるいていきます。
I walk.
Particle と（with）
＊ともだちとデパートへいきます。
I go to the department store with a friend.
＊ひとりでデパートへいきます。
I go to the department store alone.
（Particle for ひとり：alone, is で）
Q) だれとデパートへいきますか。
With who are you going to the department store?
A) ともだちといきます。
I am going with a friend.
ひとりでいきます。
I am going alone.
Particle に（Indicate specific time）
Particle に is needed when indicating month,
date and time.
＊４がつにタイへいきます。
I am going to Thailand in April.
＊４がつ１５にちにタイへいきます。
I am going to Thailand on 15th of April.
However, particle に is optional for days.
＊にちようび［に］タイへいきます。
I am going to Thailand on Sunday.
For words like きょう、あした、きのう、らいげつ etc，
particle に is not needed.
＊らいげつタイへいきます。
I am going to Thailand next month.
When 「いつ」
「いつ」is used to ask ‘when’ broadly.
Q) いつタイへいきますか。
When are you going to Thailand?
A）４がつ１５にちにいきます。
I am going on the 15th of April.
にちようび［に］いきます。
I am going on Sunday.
らいげついきます。
I am going next month.
If you want to ask with more detail「なんがつ」（what month）
「なんにち」（what date）「なんようび」（what day） is also
possible.

Particle を（Indicates object for transitive verbs）
＊ごはんをたべます。
I eat rice.
Q) ごはんをたべますか。
Do you eat rice?
Q) なにをたべますか。
What do you eat?
A) はい、たべます。
Yes, I eat
A) ごはんをたべます。
I eat rice.
いいえ、たべません。
No, I don’t eat.
なにもたべません。
I don’t eat anything.
Meet 「あいます」
＊ともだちにあいます。
I meet a friend.
（Particle for 「あいます」is に）
Q) ともだちにあいますか。
Are you meeting a friend?
A) はい、あいます。
Yes, I am meeting a friend.
いいえ、あいません。
No, I am not meeting a friend.
Q) だれにあいますか。
Who are you meeting?
A) ともだちにあいます。
I am meeting a friend.
だれもあいません。
I am not meeting anyone.
Q) どこでともだちにあいますか。
Where are you meeting your friend?
A) としょかんであいます。
I am meeting my friend at the library.
Invitation 1 「～ましょう」
たべます → たべましょう

Invitation 2 「～ませんか」

Yes, let’s eat.
「ええ」 is usually used in conversations,
same meaning as 「はい」.
