Six International Projects
Con obras tan relevantes en España como el
Baluarte de Pamplona, el Centro de Congresos
de Ávila, el Museo Arqueológico de Vitoria, el
Pabellón Español de Zaragoza 2008, o el Museo
de Bellas Artes de Oviedo, los nuevos proyectos
de Francisco Mangado (Estella, 1957) vienen
a potenciar la creciente presencia internacional
del estudio pamplonés: desde Francia y Suiza,
con varias propuestas de uso cultural y residencial, hasta Guinea Ecuatorial, con el diseño de
un centro docente, pasando por China, donde ha
ganado el concurso para un gran complejo cultural, el presente dossier refleja, siempre desde
el compromiso y el rigor constructivo, el interés
del navarro por el lugar, la cultura y el paisaje.
With prominent works to his name like the
Baluarte in Pamplona, the Congress Center of
Ávila, the Archaeological Museum of Vitoria, the
Spanish Pavilion for Expo Zaragoza 2008, or the
Museum of Fine Arts in Oviedo, the new projects
by Francisco Mangado (Estella, 1957) increase
the presence abroad of the Pamplona-based
office. In France and Switzerland the studio is
working on cultural and residential proposals; in
Equatorial Guinea it is developing a university
building; and in China it has won the competition
to build a large cultural complex. The dossier
reflects the architect’s continued interest in the
place, culture and landscape, with commitment
and constructive rigor as permanent principles.

New Bordeaux Stadium
Situado en el barrio de Bordeaux-Lac, al norte
de la ciudad, el nuevo estadio de Burdeos
—que será la sede del FC Girondins— tiene
capacidad para 42.000 espectadores y cuenta
con un campo de 68 x 105 metros, que puede
ampliarse para acoger partidos de rugby,
conciertos y otros espectáculos. El proyecto
reinterpreta los tres elementos constitutivos de
este tipo de edificio: el graderío, los espacios
de transición, y la imagen de conjunto, y los
adapta a las condiciones específicas del lugar,
logrando así aunar la funcionalidad con una
identidad única. La inauguración del estadio
está prevista para mayo de 2015, y acogerá
cinco encuentros de la Eurocopa 2016.
Located in the quarter of Bordeaux-Lac to the
north of Bordeaux, the new stadium – which will
become the home of the FC Girondins – seats
a maximum of 42.000 spectators, with a football
pitch of 68 x 105 meters that can be extended
for rugby games, concerts and other shows.
The project reinterprets the three fundamental elements of a stadium: the bowl, the concourse, transitional element between the field
and the surroundings, and the overall appearance. These three criteria are adapted to the
specific conditions of the site, and combined to
achieve functionality and a strong identity. The
stadium’s inauguration is in May 2015, and it
will host five Euro 2016 matches.
