A Message From Fr. Roberto, O.P.
Parish theme for this year: It’s All about Jesus! ¡Todo Por Jesús!
Save the Dates!
• St. Dominic – This summer we will once again be celebrating the feast of St. Dominic, the founder of our
Dominican Order. There will be a bilingual novena from Monday, August 3 to Saturday, August 8 that
will include a recitation of the Rosary, a talk about Dominican spirituality and then Mass each evening. On
Saturday, August 8th, we will have a bilingual Mass at 5:30 p.m. followed by a reception.
• Fr. Vicente – Then, on Saturday, August 29th, we will celebrate Fr. Vicente’s 60th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood with Mass at 5:30 p.m. followed by a reception. Come join us and honor Fr.
Vicente!
Fr. Bart Is Coming
I am happy to say we are going to get another Dominican priest this summer. His name is Fr. Bart Hutcherson, OP, and he has spent most of his priesthood doing campus ministry in Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and Tucson. He is currently finishing up a sabbatical year – he has been in the Holy Land, in Spain studying Spanish, and
currently he is walking the Camino de Santiago, the famous pilgrimage trail in Spain. He is very energetic, fun and
a great preacher. I am sure you will all like him a lot. Fr. Bart is scheduled to arrive in early July.
Don’t Go to Church
I could probably get into trouble if any of you tell the bishop I said “Don’t
go to church,” but the image on the right explains what I mean. Obviously, I believe going
to church is important, and I have said so many times in my homilies; going to church is
an essential part of living out our faith. But even more important than going to church is
being the church. Anybody can just go to church – just show up, go through the motions
and “get the obligation out of the way” – with no commitment, no passion, no desire to
serve and no desire for growth. But being church is a whole different reality. “Church” is
not something we do but who we are!
http://unejetoj.org/unejetoj/wpToday we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost when the disciples of Jesus content/uploads/2015/03/bethechurch300x300.jpg
received the Holy Spirit and began to BE the church. As I have said many times, our
Church’s feast days are not just opportunities to celebrate something that happened 2,000 years ago; they are a reality that is available to us right now! You and I have received the same Holy Spirit and we have the same mission as
those first disciples of Jesus: to be the Church of Jesus Christ and – as I said in my homily last weekend – to “Go
into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15).
The Feast of Pentecost reminds us just how powerful the
Holy Spirit can be because it changed a group of fearful, doubting, uneducated and self-absorbed followers of Jesus into dynamic, fearless and passionate disciples and preachers. After Pentecost, the apostles were never the same. Do you dare ask God for
that kind of experience in your life? Unfortunately, so often we
Catholics do not live out the fullness of the power of the Holy
Spirit in our lives. Are you a Catholic who just goes to church,
whose faith is just about
http://justshineon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/HS2.jpg
you and your needs? Are
you a “consumer Catholic” who comes to church only when you feel like it just to get your needs
met? Or are you a Catholic who wants to be the Church by being transformed, by serving, by seeking to grow in your faith and by sharing your
faith with others?
God’s desire is for us to be Catholics whose faith is focused outward toward others, not inwards toward ourselves. He wants us to be
filled with passion for our faith and a sense of mission. So, let us be
Catholics with a mission. Let us light our own lives and our world on fire
for Jesus. Let us not just go to church but to be church!

All Antioch graduating high school
students, their families, and the
community at large are invited to
attend the interdenominational
baccalaureate ceremony
Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 7:30pm
Holy Rosary Church
The baccalaureate pays thanksgiving to graduating
students for a life dedicated to learning and to
wisdom. The tradition was believed to have
started at the University of Oxford in 1432
where the candidates for degrees ('bacca') were
presented with laurels ('lauri") of sermonic oration.
The local celebration is a solemn but joyous event
filled with music by Divine Voices and the Music
Masters and by short speeches by students and
religious leaders, including our own Father Roberto.

Un Mensaje de Padre Roberto
¡Todo Por Jesús! It’s All about Jesus!
¡Ven y únete a nosotros y
honrar al P. Vicente!
Viene Padre Bartolomeo
Salt Lake City, Las Vegas y Tucson.
