This course is designed to improve the conversation skills steadfast in an enjoyable atmosphere. A lot of speaking exercises are given in each class. A free talk session with Japanese guests is held on the last day of the course. It is a great opportunity for students to exercise what they have learnt in 3 or 4 or even 7 weeks and feel the progress made. Levels and Program LEVEL 1 Travel Japanese for beginners. In this level, students will learn communication skills useful for getting around, ordering food in restaurants, or shopping in Japan. Students can practice what they learned in class in real situations right away! For who? Suitable for complete beginners up to those who have already studied Japanese about 100 hours. CEFR lower A1 level LEVEL 2 Students learn how to communicate in Japanese in different situations in order to further enjoy their stay in Japan. Students will practice a variety of conversations that will enrich the quality of their experiences. The topics include asking friends out, gathering information or asking for specific products at shops etc. For who? Suitable for elementary level learners who have already learned approximately 80 to 150 hours of Japanese. CEFR: upper A1 level LEVEL 3 Students learn varied styles of speech appropriate for different situations: meeting people for the first time, speaking with teachers, having conversations with friends, asking questions at a store etc. This level will broaden the learners’ social life in Japan. For who? Suitable for elementary level learners who have already learned approximately 120 to 220 hours of Japanese. CEFR: lower A2 level LEVEL 4 Students practice expressing their feelings and opinions about a wide range of topics. They will learn to broaden conversations by giving explanations or making suggestions. For who? Suitable for upper elementary level learners who have already learned approximately 180 to 300 hours of Japanese. *Students who take this level must be able to read hiragana and katakana. CEFR: middle to upper A2 level LEVEL 5 Students learn to build smooth personal relationships using Japanese by explaining their opinions and feelings while understanding the viewpoints of other people. Students will practice reasoning or discussing familiar topics. For who? Suitable for upper elementary to pre-‐intermediate level learners who have already learned approximately 300 and 400 hours of Japanese. For those who have been studying basic Japanese but need to practice speaking. CEFR: upper A2 to lower B1 level Brush-‐up This level is suitable for intermediate level students. The students learn to master the appropriate use of Japanese according to situations or the people they are speaking with. They will be expressing themselves elaborately, giving detailed explanations and opinions about familiar topics or personal experiences. Students will be using the 4 skills of languages (speaking, listening, reading and writing) well in balance. For who? Suitable for pre-‐intermediate to intermediate level learners who have already studies approximately 500 to 700 hours of Japanese. For those at the level of passing JLPT N4 level. CEFR: lower B1 level. KAI Japanese Language School 2 JLPT PREPARATION COURSE (Levels N1 and N2) * JLPT: Japanese Language Proficiency Test LEVELS: PERIOD: TIME: CLASS SIZE: REGISTER BY: JPLT N1 & N2 August 5 – August 23, 2013 (5 days a week for 3 weeks) 9:00 – 12:50 (Four 50-‐minute lessons per day) max. 12 persons Friday July 26, 2013 Course Characteristics The JLPT Preparation Course is designed for students who are preparing for the JLPT N1 or N2 exam that takes place twice a year in July and December. The course is especially developed for students from non-‐kanji countries. ✔ The lesson covers all the subjects that JLPT consists of: “vocabulary”, “grammar”, “reading comprehension” and “listening comprehension”. ✔ Emphasis is placed on reading comprehension, which is a major component of the JLPT exam. Students are trained to efficiently extract the relevant information in given texts by fast reading and analysis. ✔ Students are given tests in the middle and at the end of the course in order to assess their achievement. ✔ Each student will have an individual counseling with their teachers and receive advice on how to further improve and successfully pass the JLPT exam. Students who participate in this course are expected to study vocabulary and grammar, etc. at home every day to prepare for each lesson. Course Content and Level The lesson covers all the subjects that JLPT consists of, however, emphasis is place on reading comprehension. JLPT Level N1 Vocabulary, Grammar, Listening comprehension, Reading comprehension In the reading comprehension section, students will learn the pattern of the frequently asked questions and acquire the skills to solve questions logically in short time. More particularly, students will discuss with their classmates how they solved the questions and why they chose the answers. This gives everyone an opportunity to share with the class their reading strategy and how they can further improve. For who? Suitable for those who have studied approximately 1000 kanji. JLPT Level N2 Vocabulary, Grammar, Listening comprehension, Reading comprehension In the reading comprehension section, students will learn reading techniques. In each lesson, students are given shorter reading exercises to build up reading skills. In the last week of the course, students will be challenging longer reading exercises. For who? Suitable for those who have studied approximately 500 kanji. ✔ Students should be at the level mentioned above in order to understand the study materials used in class. ✔ All classes are given entirely in Japanese. Students will be given a telephone interview for a level-‐check in the application process. ✔ An achievement test is given at the end of the course to assess the achievement level. After the test, each student will have an individual counseling session with teachers.
